SYLLABUS

MA005_PROBABILITY AND STATISTICS

2. COURSE DESCRIPTION

Probability and statistics is a required (or elective) subject for students in some fields of
the information technology sector. This is one of the entrance exams for postgraduate
studies. This course presents concepts and methods related to: Probability theory
(Probability space; Random variables; Characteristic functions; Sequences of random
variables; Probability distribution laws; Limit theorems of probability distributions) and
Statistics (Random sampling; Point estimation and interval estimation; Hypothesis testing;
Correlation analysis and regression; Some issues regarding random processes).
Additionally, this course also introduces methods for recognizing, analyzing, and
processing real-world problems; processing statistical data; thereby helping users make
appropriate inferences (to support decision-making processes) ...

3. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

No. Course Learning Outcome

G2.1 Mastering foundational knowledge of concepts and basic formulas
related to the fields of probability and statistics is essential. Specifically,
this includes understanding probability space, one-dimensional and
multi-dimensional random variables, probability distribution laws, as
well as point estimation, interval estimation, correlation analysis,
regression, and the process of hypothesis testing.
G3.1 Being able to interpret, reason, evaluate, comment, and analyze issues
related to probability is crucial. This includes finding probability
distribution functions, calculating the expected value and variance of
random variables, recognizing and applying common probability
distribution models. It also involves mastering the skills of predicting and
inferring problems, analyzing and processing statistical data,
understanding correlation and regression, and constructing statistical
hypothesis tests.
