FILE

The area on the disk where your work is saved with some name is known as a file.

FOLDER

A folder is a place where many files are stored. In other words, the files are
contained in a folder.

A files can be compared to your notebook in which you store your notes, and a
folder to your school bag in which you keep you notebooks and books.

Creating a folder

 Move the mouse pointer away from icons on desktop and click right mouse
button.
 A pull down menu appears. Move the mouse pointer to the New option.
 A new menu appears. Click on the folder option.
 You get a new folder on the desktop. Type in your name from the position of
cursor.
 We can create a folder in my document folder also.'

Opening a file or folder

 When you have to open a file or folder , simply move the mouse pointer to
the required file/folder and double click on it. It is opened and its contents can
be viewed.

Renaming a file or folder.

 Select the file or folder that has to be renamed


 Right click the mouse button and select the rename option.
 Type the new name that you wish to give to the file/folder.
Deleting file or folder

A file or a folder is safely deleted by following the steps.

 Select the file or folder that has to be deleted.


 Press the del key or from the edit menu, select the delete option.
 Windows will confirm before deleting the file/folder.
 Press yes button to delete the file/folder.

Moving the a file or folder

 Select the file / folder to be moved by clicking left mouse button.


 Click on edit
 Click on cut or copy option
 Select the folder where files/folders are to be moved.
 Click on the Edit again.
 Click on the Paste Option.
