16 The following diagram shows a solenoid wrapped around an iron core (base) and 1
further connected to a battery, allowing current to flow through it.
17 Assertion(A): The iron nails are rubbed with sandpaper before putting them in a 1
ferrous sulphate solution to demonstrate the single displacement
reaction.
Reason(R): The sandpaper helps clean dust from the iron nail's surface.
18 Assertion (A): In woody plants, gaseous exchange occurs through lenticels. 1
Reason (R): Lenticels are specialized cells found along with stomata on the stem of
woody plants
SECTION-B
Q. no. 21 to 26 are very short answer questions.
21. The diagram below shows the electrolysis of an aqueous solution of hydrochloric 2
acids. The same experiment is repeated with an aqueous solution of Glucose and an
aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. In which solution(s) will the bulb glow and
why?
OR
Identify the structure and explain sequentially the steps involved in transmitting the
information (stimulus) from the neuron to the part labeled as ‘A’.
OR

b. Which gland secretes digestive enzyme as well as hormones.
c. Name the endocrine gland associated with kidneys.
d. Which endocrine gland is present in males but not in females?
23 What is lymph? Name one function that is exclusively performed by lymph and not 2

to the diagram, why the incident ray shifts from its original path and becomes
parallel to the final emergent ray?
26 Name and distinguish in a tabular form the three types of blood vessels. 2
SECTION-C
Q.no. 27 to 33 are short answer questions.
27 The compound ‘A’ is prepared from sodium chloride and is used in the soap and 3
paper industry. Write the name and molecular formula of ‘A’. Explain the method

whitewashing. The shiny finish of the wall comes only two to three days after the
whitewashing is done. Explain the reason. Write balanced chemical equations
representing the reaction of quicklime with water and, representing the change
after the coating of compound ‘X’ on the wall is applied.

Q.no. 37 to 39 are case - based/data -based questions with 2 to 3 short sub - parts. Internal choice is
provided in one of these sub-parts.
37 Ionic compounds have a regular and orderly arrangement of ions in the crystal 4
lattice. The arrangement of ions and the inter-ionic force of attraction are
responsible for the physical properties of the ionic compounds. A few physical
properties of ionic compounds are depicted in the pictures below. Answer the
following questions based on the changes shown below.
a. Ionic compounds conduct electricity in a molten state but not in a solid
state. Explain.
b. The density of ionic compounds is usually high, and they are brittle.
c. Show the formation of sodium chloride with the help of dot representation.
38 Environmental factors such as light or gravity will change the direction that plant 4
parts grow in. These directional or tropic movements can be either towards the
stimulus or away from it. So, in two different kinds of phototropic movement,
shoots respond by bending towards light while roots respond by bending away from
it. Plants show tropism in response to other stimuli as well. the roots of a plant
always grow downwards while the shoots usually grow upwards and away from the
Earth. This upward and downward growth of shoots and roots respectively in
response to the pull of earth gravity is obviously geotropism.
39 The eye is an important and one of the most complex sensory organs in the human 4
body. It helps in seeing objects around us and further helps in the perception of
light, colour and depth. Due to several reasons, the eye can loosen its strength to
focus an object properly which introduces defects in the eye which can be
eliminated by using either convex, concave or a bifocal lens in the spectacles.
The following figure shows a human eye and its various parts.
a. A camera functions similar to a human eye. Which part of the human eye
acts like a shutter of the camera?
b. If an eye is suffering from myopia, which corrective lens should be used to
remove the defect?
c. An object of size 2 cm is placed at a distance of 15 cm from a convex lens
of focal length 10 cm. Calculate the image distance and its magnification.
OR
A box is placed at a distance of 20 cm in front of a concave mirror of radius
of curvature 20 cm. Find the distance at which the image should be formed.
Also find its magnification.
