Reality Therapy Sample Script (Day 1)
Reality Therapy Sample Script (Day 1)
Techniques: WDEP
Therapist: Good Morning, Miss _______. Welcome back to our therapy clinic. How are things
going this week?
Client: Honestly, I'm not okay, and I'm feeling really stressed. Studying is piling up, and I just
can't seem to catch up. I feel like I'm drowning.
Therapist: That sounds really tough. Can you tell me a little more about what's happening at
school that's making you feel overwhelmed?
Client: Deadlines are looming and our midterms are coming. Also, I have this big presentation
coming up next week. I just feel like I have too much on my plate.
Therapist: Okay, so it sounds like there are a lot of demands on your time right now.
Therapist: Let me introduce to you about WDEP technique and we will explore this. "W" stands
for Wants. What are your wants in this situation? What would you ideally like to happen?
Client: I simply want to feel at ease again. I want to be able to manage my time for my workload
and not feel so overwhelmed. I also want to deliver a good presentation next week.
Therapist: Great. Now, "D" stands for Doing. What are you currently doing that might be
contributing to this feeling of being overwhelmed?
Client: Uhml, I always agree to anything. I feel ashamed when I say no to their request for
help, even though I'm tired and have a lot to do.
Therapist: That makes sense. "E" stands for Evaluating. How do these behaviors help you get
what you want? Are you feeling more or less in control by saying yes to everything?
Client: To be honest, saying yes to everything is making me feel pressure and stress. I got to the
point where sometimes I couldn't finish my own tasks.
Therapist: Right. Finally, "P" stands for Planning. Based on what you said, What could you do
differently to go more closely to your wants?
Client: I think I need to have time management skills and boundaries so that when I know I have
too much to do, I won't hesitate to say no to their requests for my own sake. I will put myself first
before others and learn to ask for help when I need it.
Therapist: Those sound like some great strategies. Focusing on what you can control and
managing your time effectively will definitely help you feel less overwhelmed.
Client: You're right. I feel a little better already just having a plan. Thank you so much.
Therapist: Remember, you always have the power to choose your behaviors or to the thing what
you want. Focus on what you can control and keep your wants in mind.
Client: I will remember all of this because it will be of great help to myself and in deciding the
things that will happen in my life. Thank you once again.
Therapist: You're always welcome; just always remember that our clinic is always here. See you
in your next session.
