INTRODUCTION TO CHILD RIGHTS

Children have a mind of their own, so they can
dissent. Adults should be ready to let children make up their
mind on things that concern them. After are children are not
puppets in the hands of adults. Children need freedom. Also,
for them to grow and develop physically, socially,
emotionally, ant cognitively, opportunities need to be made
available to them. The environment has to be nurturing and
stimulating. Children are young, dependent and need care for
their well-being and development. The family and society has
to provide for food, shelter, clothing, health need and
education. Children should be safeguarded against abuse, so
need protection. All children have a claim for these things in
a society that would help in their care and provide
protection. The terms child abuse and child maltreatment are
often used interchangeably, although some researchers make
a distinction between them, treating child maltreatment as
an umbrella term to cover neglect, exploitation and
trafficking. Different jurisdictions have different requirements
for mandatory reporting and have developed different
definitions of what constitutes child abuse, and therefore
have different criteria to remove children from their families
or to prosecute a criminal charge. Child abuse can result in
immediate adverse physical effects but it is also strongly
associated with developmental problems and with many
chronic physical and psychological effects, including
subsequent ill-health, including higher rates of chronic
conditions, high-risk health behaviours and shortened
lifespan
NEED FOR CHILD CARE UNIT
Child care, otherwise known as day care, is the
care and supervision of a child or multiple children at a time,
whose ages range from two weeks of age to 18 years.
Although most parents spend a significant amount of time
caring for their children, child care typically refers to the
child’s parents. Child care is a broad topic that covers a wide
spectrum of professionals, institutions, contexts, activities,
and social and cultural conventions. Early child care is an
equally important and often overlooked component of child’s
developments.
Child care centers are designed to support the
emotional needs and development of young children. Kids
spend time with peers in a supervised, safe environment with
supportive, caring and responsive adults.
If focuses on providing holistic care to infants,
children and adolescents. The goal of pediatric nursing is to
foster growth and development of the child and promote
optimum state of physical, mental and social wellness. High-
quality child care keeps children safe and healthy. In
addition, it helps children develop skills they will need for
success in school and in their lives outside of school: Social,
emotional and communication skills. Pre-literacy and basic
mathematical skills and concepts. Childcare is no longer
about babysitting children so parents can work. Rather,
childcare is about giving kids the environment that best
promotes their children.
1098: Childline is a national, 24 hour,
Emergency toll free phone service for children in need of care
and protection. Any child or concerned adult can dial 1098 to
access this service. It is the project of the ministry of Woman
and Child development, Government of India (GOI).

SOCIAL AND MORAL VALUES AMONG KIDS

There is a famous quote on Character and Value, “If wealth is
lost, nothing is lost; if health is lost, something is lost; when a
character is lost, all is lost”. - Billy Graham
Having moral values means having a strong roots. For the
trees, having a healthy root means having healthy leaves
and branches. And for the people having a strong root of
healthy values means having good thoughts and healthy life.
Moral values are important components of any individual’s
character and they should be taught right from childhood.
The importance of teaching values to children is that it helps
them to choose the right way.
Moral values give a child the right direction which helps them
to get accepted and respected by society.
Early childhood is the best age for character building and
helping children learn the importance of values. It is said that
the learnings of childhood stay with children throughout
their life. It helps them to follow it as they grow and get
inherited them and stays with them for the rest of their life.
Teaching kids good values and responsibility help them to
think from others' perspective and help others. It might also
help them to know their purpose in life and what good things
they need to do for others in society.
Moral values help people to be more selfless and put the
needs of others before themselves.
The Importance of teaching values through minute things
which makes difference for example: talking politely,
controlling anger, having patience etc.
You can take the help of youtube videos and other resources
to teach lessons and examples of moral values.
Remember to encourage them to practice it regularly so that
they get the habit of it. Even if they miss it sometimes, it's
your responsibility to remind and help them.
SCIENCE AND INNOVATION AMONG THE
KIDS
Science and innovation both are different
areas but are inter-related. When both work together create
awesome outputs. So kids need knowledge in both the fields.
Science and innovation are related in the following
ways: The scientific method: Uses observation,
recording, description, and hypothesis formation.
Innovation: The process of creating inventions.
Innovation in science: Improves experimental and
analytictechniques, and measuring behaviours.
A system of knowledge about the physical,
chemical and biological universe and things that occur in it
is called Science. Science can help children learn to discover
and wonder about the world around them. It can also help
them develop skills such as:
Problem-solving, Communication, research. Science can also
help children improve their overall academic success and
keep them curious about the world around them.
Innovation is the introduction of something new, such
as an idea, method, or device. It can also be defined as
the application of better solutions to meetnew or existing
market requirements. When teaching sciencetopics to
young children, provide them with lots of objects to
observe, touch and ask questions about. Children develop
anawareness of the world around them as they explore
and investigate it.
Science education can also help students:
• Understand the scientific process
• Apply evidence-based knowledge
• Develop a passion for learning
• Cultivate a knowledgeable citizenry
• Learn language and mathematics
• Wonder about how the natural world works.

As the world is becoming competitive day by

day, people are losing their creativity. Everyone is in the race
to achieve the same standard. However, there are people
who stand out from the crowd with their creative ideas. It is
necessary to cultivate innovative thinking; otherwise, the
world will be a dull boring place.

Innovation happens when someone improves

on or make a significant contribution to something that has
already been invented. Innovation can support mental
growth in children through challenges involving elements
like: Equality, Balance, Spatial relationships, Problem-
solving.
Innovation can also support the development of key skills
such as:
• Sensory perception
• Verbal skills
• Hand-eye coordination.

IMPACT OF THE VISIT AMONG THE KIDS

AND THE COLLEGE STUDENTS
In the orphanage there were about 30 children of age group
between 6-10 years. When we entered into the orphanage
those blooming buds kept on running around us with so
much of joy and smile on their faces. They welcomed us by
singing a prayer song in their melodious voices. And then we
started to interact with them. They told what they liked to do
and what they wish to become. On hearing their speeches
we understood that they all love to dance. So we all danced
together with them. It was so fun. We played and taught few
moral values. Then we distributed snacks and chocolates to
them. They seemed very happy and excited.
While interacting with the caretaker we got to know the
history of the orphanage, how it was established, and what
are the problems faced by those children and about their
family situations. And not everyone's parents were dead,
some kids had parents but either their mom had eloped or
their parents just couldn't raise them up and ended up
leaving them there. The feeling of being in their small world,
spending time with them, and seeing them happy and joyful
was really overwhelming. It felt absolutely amazing to have
been able to bring happiness on someone's face. Little help
from us meant so much to them and their priceless reaction
was equally important to us.
The visit wasn't only about a short term happiness, it was
about a lifelong lesson about how we should never take
things for granted. We are so fortunate to have got luxurious
lifestyle. Happiness for themlies in little things.
They have their own happy little world.
And we have a lot to learn from them.
CONCLUSION FOR ORPHANAGE VISIT
• Orphaned children are of the most vulnerable groups in
India
• Like every other child they too have rights and interests
which need protection
• A place where children without parents are cared for
and housed
• Poverty is one of the biggest factors leading to children
being separated from their families and entering
orphanages
• Globally, over 80% of children in orphanages have a
living parent
• Up to 8 million children are thought to be living in
orphanages are at much higher risk of becoming
victims of violence, trafficking and exploitation
• They are willing to open up their heart to someone
who shows them a little bit of affection.
