Portfolio Activity Unit 6

The two instructional methods I would like to use as a teacher by employing a cross-curricular

approach in a diverse classroom in the future are project-based learning and cooperative learning.

Project-based learning (PBL) is an effective instructional method that engages students in active

learning experiences. It encourages critical thinking, encourages creativity, and develops strong

team-working skills. PBL also motivates students to learn by providing them with an exciting

and meaningful context for learning. Furthermore, PBL is a great way to promote authentic

learning by allowing students to work on projects that have real-world relevance. By

incorporating PBL into a cross-curricular approach, students will gain an understanding and

appreciation of all the subject matter and be able to draw meaningful connections between the

different subjects.

Cooperative learning is an effective instructional method that promotes collaborative learning

and encourages students to work together to accomplish a common goal.

My goal is to foster a classroom culture where students feel confident to ask questions, take

risks, and explore.

I anticipate several challenges in implementing project-based learning in a diverse classroom.

Many of my students may come from various backgrounds and have unique learning styles and

needs. In order to ensure success, I will need to recognize and address these differences to ensure

that all students are able to successfully participate and contribute to the project. Additionally, I

will need to be able to effectively manage and organize the project, allowing for flexibility based

on the needs of the students and the project.

I would also like to use cooperative learning as a teacher by employing a cross-curricular

approach in a diverse classroom in order to create a supportive and inclusive learning

environment. This method of learning allows students to learn from each other and encourages
them to take an active role in their learning. It also helps to foster collaboration and encourages

students to have a sense of ownership over their learning.

However, there are potential challenges when attempting to implement cooperative learning.

Students may have difficulty working in groups with peers from different backgrounds and

cultures. Some students may also be shy or not feel comfortable in a group environment.

Additionally, some of the students may have difficulty understanding the concept of cooperative

learning.

To overcome these challenges, I will take time to introduce the concept of cooperative learning

to the class and explain its importance. I will also ensure that I provide clear instructions and

expectations for the students.

Title: Geometric Shape

Situation Going on an exploration of the grounds around our school, Students will have the
chance to locate and ascertain various geometrical shapes like squares,
rectangles, circles, triangles and other polygons. The student can take photos or
they can sketch their findings and record where it was observed. Once concluding
their expedition, the class will come back to the classroom to share what they saw.
After that, the instructor will pull together all pupil reports to make a collective class
chart. Questions the teacher could pose:
What shapes did you find?
What patterns did you notice?
How can you use the shapes you found to create something?
What similarities and differences did you notice in the shapes you found?
What are some ways you could use the shapes you found in the classroom?

Groups Divide the class into small groups of 3-4 students.

- Give each group a set of geometric shapes and colored pencils.
- Explain the task: Each group will work together to create a picture using the
geometric shapes and their attributes.
- Encourage the groups to discuss different ideas and work together to plan their
picture.
-Each student should have a role in the design of the picture.
Bridge Teachers can use geometric shapes to help students understand various concepts
in math, science, and art. For example, teachers can have students explore the
properties of shapes such as circles, triangles, and rectangles. They can discover
the different types of lines, angles, and polygons, and how to calculate
circumference or area. In addition, they can use shapes to explore tessellations,
construct 3-D objects, or create patterned art designs. They can also discuss the
various properties of shapes, such as symmetry, congruence, and incongruence.

Task Divide the class into groups of 3-4 students.

- Provide each group with all the materials they need.
- Explain to the students that they will be creating a picture using the geometric
shapes and their attributes.
-Each group should discuss and decide what they want to draw and how they can
use the shapes to create the image.
- Allow the groups to draw their picture on the paper using the colored
pencils/markers
Exhibit - Once the picture is complete, each group should explain their picture to the
class.
- Allow the class to provide feedback and ask questions.
- . Finally, discuss as a class how the pictures represent the concept or
theme.
Reflection I thought this lesson was a fun and engaging way to get students to explore their
environment and think critically about the shapes they found. It was also a great
way to get the students to work together as a team and collaborate on finding
shapes. Additionally, it allowed the students to practice their creativity and artistic
skills by having them take photos or draw the shapes they found. Overall, I think
this was a valuable lesson that students can use to understand the fundamentals
of geometry.
