ENGINEER’S DESKTOP 5000.1.7 MUST BE INSTALLED BEFORE YOU USE IWELLFILE 5000.1.7
iWellfile 5000.1.7 uses a number of EDT™ Applications and components that were updated in EDT
5000.1.7. You cannot login to iWellFile 5000.1.7 unless EDT 5000.1.7 is installed (EDM database
version 09.03.05.228, or later).
Note that once the EDM database is upgraded to 5000.1.7, you will no longer be able to
access it using the earlier EDT applications.
EDT 5000.1.7 software is an update—it will update your EDT 5000.1.0 or higher software.
5000.1.7 can co-exist with previous versions of EDT software on the same machine.
However, LAM 5000 will not co-exist with earlier versions of LAM (FLEXlm license server)
on the same machine.
To run EDT 5000.1.7 applications and a previous version of the EDT applications on the
same machine, you must point one or both versions of EDT software to a LAM server
located on a remote machine, since only one version of LAM can run locally. Refer to the
EDT™ Version 5000.1.7 Summary Level Release Notes for details.
A security warning may appear when trying to install software, due to security restrictions
imposed by recent Microsoft security updates:
Installation
The iWellFile™ software is delivered via Electronic Delivery System using the Landmark
Software Manager tool. This is an update release, so you can install the iWellFile 5000.1.7
version only if iWellFile 5000.1.0 or higher exists on your machine.
If a version previous to 5000.1.0 exists on your machine, uninstall it and then install
version 5000.1.0 or later.
The complete instructions for installing iWellFile on 32-bit and 64-bit environments can be
found in the iWellFile™ Software Version 5000.1.7 Installation Guide
(iWellFile_Install_Guide.pdf). The installation guide is located in the root install directory
(e.g., C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\iWellFile_5000.1.0).
Licensing
Landmark's Application Manager (LAM) is the license system used to control access to
Landmark applications. LAM is based on Acresso's FLEXnet Publisher. LAM version 5000
is required for release 5000.1.0 and higher. You do not need to re-license for 5000.1.7;
your 5000.1.0 licenses will work. Refer to the EDT™ Software Version 5000.1.0 Summary
Level Release Notes for licensing details.
Only one LAM server can run per machine. If access is desired to both 2003.x and 5000.x
Engineer’s Desktop applications, then LM_LICENSE_FILE must point to two distinct LAM
servers: either one local and one remote, or two remote servers. The license path to the LAM
2003 Server must precede the path to the LAM 5000 Server, separated by a semi-colon, in
LM_LICENSE_FILE. For example (all on one line):
LM_LICENSE_FILE : c:\landmark\lam\license2003.dat;
\\remote_machine\c:\landmark\lam\license5000.dat;
Make sure that the 2003 license is the first one specified in the path.
Mobile Checkout
LAM 5000.1.7 for Windows includes a utility called Mobile Checkout, which allows you to
“Borrow” (temporarily check out) a network license to use when a computer, such as a laptop,
is disconnected from the network. Performing a Borrow writes encrypted information on your
laptop which preserves a mobile license for the user when disconnected from the network.
The license can then be used on an individual computer for a time specified when the user
checks out the license. The license is returned to the server licenses when either the user
uses the early return procedure or the specified time limit is reached. When a license is
checked out the number of available licenses on the server is reduced by one. All Drilling
applications except OpenWire® Client, OpenWire® Server, and Well Cost™ can utilize the
“Borrow” feature in the Mobile Checkout utility. For more information, refer to the LAM
Guide—Linux, Solaris, and Windows.
Instructions for using the Mobile Checkout feature are in the LAM Guide—Linux, Solaris
and Windows.
Mobile Checkout fails to remove the Registry entries left behind after the borrowed licenses ex-
pire.
This is a known FLEX issue, and should be resolved in future releases of FLEX. To remove corrupted
or expired Borrow entries from the Borrow client machine registry: 1. Run regedit.exe. 2. Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FLEXlm License Manager\Borrow. 3. Delete the "infoborrow" key
and contents. 3a. Delete any other remaining keys and contents (one per feature that is readable). 4.
NOTE: If you do this by mistake with active borrows, you will need to wait until they expire at the server
before you can get the client and server synchronized again.
Database Upgrade
Refer to the “Upgrading the Database” section of the Engineer’s Desktop 5000.1.7 Drilling
Summary Level Release Notes for complete instructions on how to upgrade your EDM™
database to the 5000.1.7 version.
There are no additional enhancements or new functionality for the iWellFile™ software
5000.1.7 release. This release focused on supporting the EDT 5000.1.7 release and fixing
critical issues identified in “Fixed Issues” on page 27.
There are no additional enhancements or new functionality for the iWellFile™ software
5000.1.5 release. This release focused on taking advantage of the optimized EDM Report
Manager found in EDT 5000.1.5, and fixing critical issues identified in “Fixed Issues” on
page 27.
This update release is a platform roll only. Windows XP needs SP3, Windows 2003 Server
(32-bit) needs SP2, and Windows 2008 Server SP1 (64-bit) has been added.
This patch fixes defects that allow the customer to customize the location of output
reports.
The 5000.1.1 update of iWellFile™ software to the released 5000.1.0 iWellFile software
does not have any new functionality. It is an update targeted at simplifying the installation
and support of iWellFile software for the call out functions from EDT™ software (i.e.
Reports, COMPASS™ Plots, Wellbore Schematics, Wallplot Composer Results and Data
Analyzer Queries). Each of these call out functions have been wrapped into Windows
Services that are much easier for the iWellFile application to access and requiring less
security setup during the installation.
A small number of defects have also been addressed which are noted in the Fixed Issues
near the end of this document
5000.1. Release
The 5000.1 release of iWellFile software supports the Microsoft Vista operating system,
has new LAM (FLEXnet Publisher) licensing, and contains some critical bug fixes.
In addition, the following enhancements were added to the iWellFile software 5000.1
release.
The primary focus of the 5000.1 release was to enhance the user experience and to add
more data entry features. This was accomplished through the addition of a number of
features including:
• Initialize Wells
• Build Well Filters
• Customize Charts
• Print all cached Reports
• Easier maintenance Customizations
— maintain Landmark and Custom folder for configuration files
— configure Well Operations tab report links
Well Initialization
The Well Initialization page provides users with the ability to create and initialize Wells in
the EDM™ database. This page is accessed from the link in the application toolbar. The
link is only available to users who have been granted access to iWellFile.Well.Edit token.
The Well Initialization page contains a number of fields used to define the Well. Once all
the data has been entered, the user clicks OK and the Well and associated data is created
in the EDM database.
During the initialization of a Well the following actions are performed by the application
depending on the data entered for the Well:
Templates
Well Initialization templates can be created to speed up the creation of similar Wells.
Templates created in iWellFile™ software are available for selection in the toolbar.
From the toolbar templates can be created, edited or selected and applied.
Select Edit
Create Apply
Well Initialization templates can only be created or edited by users who have been
granted access to the iWellFile.Template.Edit token.
Users create a template and supply values for many data fields. When a Well is
initialized using the template, the values entered in the template are automatically
populated based on the template definition.
The Well Initialization page can also be configured to customize the fields appearing
in the various sections of the Well Initialization page. Each section is customized in the
following files: Event_Details.xml, Location_Details.xml, Well_Details.xml and
WellBore_Details.xml. These configuration files are located on the web server in the
iWellFile software installation directory Well Initialization folder (e.g.,
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\iWellFile_5000.1.0\config\Landmark\Well Initialization).
The Landmark folder stores the default settings shipped with the application. When
customizing the sections of the Well Initialization page, be sure to store the customized
version of the XML files in the Custom folder (i.e., Config\Custom\Well Initialization).
Instructions for editing these files are contained within the file.
Well Filters
iWellFile™ software allows the use of filters to restrict the data displayed in the
application. Filter queries can now be created directly in the application. Filters are
selected, uploaded and created from the application toolbar. Use the Create Well Filters
( ) button to create Well Filter queries.
Upload Create
Filter queries can be saved as “public” or “user”. Public queries are available to all
iWellFile™ software users. Public filter queries are saved on the iWellFile server in the
<install directory>\filters folder. (e.g., C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\iWellFile_5000.1.0\filters). User
queries are only available to the user who created the query. These query files are saved
on the iWellFile server in the <install directory>\filters\<user name> folder. (e.g.,
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\iWellFile_5000.1.0\filters\jsmith).
• Landmark - The Landmark folder contains the default configuration of the application.
Configurations made in the Custom folder override configurations made in the Landmark
folder. Future installs of iWellFile™ software will not overwrite configurations made to files
located in the Custom folder.
The following configuration options take advantage of the Landmark and Custom folders:
• Charts
• Key Performance Indicators
• Well Initialization
• Log File Locations
• Production Plots
• Report Customization
• Report Icon Mapping
• Well Operations Display Selector
Custom Charts
The Landmark folder stores the default settings shipped with the application. When
customizing Charts, be sure to store the customized version of the ChartsConfig.xml in
the Custom folder (i.e., Config\Custom\Charts).
• Support of 2Y axis.
• DataSeries column name. Also provided is the facility to form the groups for unique
value of dataseries column. Only one Dataseries column can be defined.
• Choice of Colors to be used in plotting charts.
• Chart Title Name.
• Axis Label Name (can also defined as a Macro, to get the value at run time)
Instructions for editing the ChartsConfig.xml file is contained within the file.
The Report page now allows users to print all reports that currently reside in the cache.
Cached reports are noted with the following symbol: . This allows an end user to
quickly print all of the reports for a given day or a given Well; or allow them to easily email
an entire Well’s reports to a partner or other interested party.
The Print All... button prints all selected Cached reports as one .PDF file. The Print All
button is disabled until the Cached reports option is selected.
iWellFile™ software now allows administrators to configure Daily Drilling Report links and
Daily Cost Report links displayed in the Well Operations tabs. These links are configured
in the ReportCustomization.xml file located on the web server in the iWellFile software
installation directory “config” folder (e.g., C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\iWellFile\config\Landmark).
The Landmark folder stores the default settings shipped with the application. When
customizing report links, be sure to store the customized version of the
ReportCustomization.xml in the Config\Custom folder.
Instructions for editing the “ReportCustomization.xml” file are contained within the file.
