much concerns circulating in the online world about the identity of the parties
involved, one of which claims that the school is playing favorites between the parties,
and favoring the bully in the video. As an active social media user, you want to

below outlines the task that you will have to take in order to come up with an
informative post relative to the viral issue at hand.
Let us move on further as you answer the following activity to enhance your
capacities in passing opinion as to the daily life situations you are facing involving
information literacy as a Senior High student.

Information needs The information I need is about a student

(What information do you need?) who bullies others on school grounds and
how bullying isn't stopping because the
school doesn't prevent it.
Sources of information Look for available materials on the internet
(Where will you get them?) or in the library. Search for any sources that
are related to bullying.
Access to the information Use any digital devices I have to do my
(How will you access them?) research or go to the library and borrow the
materials you will need.
Evaluate information Verify if the website, journals, and articles
(How will you check the quality of came from reliable and credible sources.
information?) Check who's the author and see if the
materials I've gathered contain facts and
accurate data.
Organize information Create a file folder or drive for all the data
(How will you organize and store and information I have collected, then
them?) download and print it. This way, I'll have a
soft copy as well as a hard copy. I'll also
make sure to cite properly all the information
I've gathered.
Communicate information I can publish my research or post it online to
How will you create and raise awareness and spread information to
communicate them?) everyone.
Activity 3: Information Ethics
Given below are hypothetical situations that require your unbiased opinion
and educated judgment. Write your point of view as to each situation, taking into
consideration the following mechanics in grading this activity:

1. You are researching on an assignment in your subject in Media and Information

Literacy. You came along an article online that amazingly can answer the
research assignment perfectly well. You copy and pasted it into one great essay,
complete with pictures and other visuals. You did not cite your references in order
to impress your perfectionist and strict teacher.
- The issue here is that you are not properly citing a source that will help
you with your assignment. You may be able to impress your teacher, but
you risk yourself getting caught plagiarizing this article. The act of
copying and pasting someone's work is considered plagiarism.
Plagiarism is unethical information use. A person does not possess the
right to use another person's works without permission or authorization.
Authors put a lot of time, energy, knowledge, and skill into creating
articles. If you find a credible source, give your respect to the author(s)
that publish it and properly use citations. It is acceptable to use
someone else's materials, but everything must be accurately cited,
quoted, and referenced. Always make sure to cite your sources to avoid
plagiarism.

2. A family friend, who also happens to be your classmate in one of your classes
was diagnosed with an incurable illness. Your close family ties enabled you to
know the status of her health, including its severity, and asked you to refrain from
spilling out the information outside of your family circle. In order to help her with
her absences and academic standing, you told your class adviser about her
health status.
- It is never acceptable to expose confidential information. It's illegal,
especially if it's very private, and I could go to jail for it. I must never
reveal something trusted, such as hospital records or a patient's health
status, knowing that I am not even the patient's family. Although I have a
good purpose for telling the reason for my classmate's absences, the
fact that her family trusted me to keep quiet about the secret should be
regarded. Privacy is significant for many reasons, so I should not
disregard it. If many people know my classmate's health information and
use it against her, she may be mistreated or bullied.

3. You are living in a peaceful community within your barangay where everyone
practically knows everyone. Lately, there have been rumors circulating around
the neighborhood that one of your friends is into illegal drugs. Upon investigation
and personal interview, you found out that he is actually using marijuana because
of an emotional problem within his family. You decided to help him by enlisting
the help of psychologists and authorities in order to help him rehabilitate and
cope with the problem. True enough, he was sent to a rehabilitation center in
order to undergo debriefing. The news spread like wildfire within the
neighborhood and soon, his family’s problems was then discussed out in the
open. Your friend’s family have branded you a traitor for helping the “arrest” of
your friend and ultimately revealing their problems to the entire neighborhood.
- I will never be ashamed about helping others in need. If I can save
someone's life and protect them, I will do it no matter who you are.
People will always have something negative to say about us. We should
never pay attention to them, especially if they have no idea who we are.
This is my friend, and I should never hesitate to help and judge him as a
person. We all cope with our emotions in different ways, so I will never
criticize what my friend did. It is not illegal to seek psychological
assistance. We should give importance to and prioritize things that
matter to our mental health.
