Semantic Map

A semantic map serves to structure information into categories using concepts in geometric figures and relating them with arrows. It is built by selecting the most relevant information and designing the scheme around a central idea with associations such as characteristics and consequences. The types of semantic maps vary in shape depending on the number of ideas.

SEMANTIC MAP

It is a methodological strategy that serves to structure information into categories.

Concepts are generally placed within circles, squares, or ovals. Then, they are
related by means of arrows, on which the links are written to connect the concepts.
These maps are also called conceptual networks .

To build a semantic map, the first step consists of reading and selecting the most
relevant information, for which the summarization technique is used (reading and
taking small notes) or, simply, summaries are prepared.

A second step consists of designing the scheme according to the characteristics

and number of ideas that are intended to be organized. From the central theme,
ideas are associated, which can be characteristics, facts, causes, consequences,
etc.

The types of semantic maps are varied; They are generally subdivided using a
geometric figure that is appropriate according to the number of ideas: for example,
a square or rectangle for four ideas, a hexagon for six ideas, etc. Likewise, images
and color can be added, so that the visual effect is optimized and it is possible to
add information.
MIND MAP

A mind map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, readings,

drawings, or other concepts linked and arranged radically through a key word or
central idea. Mind maps are a very effective method to extract and memorize
information. They are a logical and creative way of taking notes, organizing,
associating and expressing ideas, which consists of mapping your reflections on a
topic, it is represented through drawings, images or it may not have these and use
colors for a better representation of the chosen topic.

A mental map is an image of different elements, used as key points that provide
specific information about a particular topic or the ramification of several topics in
relation to a central point, it is also a graphic manifestation of radial thinking where
a central core Branches radiate in all directions when we associate ideas, it is
capturing all the information on a single plane. Mind maps are considered visual
notes to better transmit your thinking, synthesize learning and achieve meaningful
learning. Within mind maps you can use key words, signs, symbols, drawings,
codes, abbreviations. With mind maps you learn to organize and associate your
ideas. To better understand what a mental map is, let's imagine the map of a city.
The center of the city represents the main idea, the main avenues that lead to the
center represent the key thoughts of the mental process, the minor streets
represent the secondary thoughts, etc. Images or special shapes can represent
monuments or ideas that are especially important to make mental maps.
CONCEPTUAL MAP

A concept map is a learning tool based on the graphic representation of a certain

topic through the schematization of the concepts that make it up. These concepts
are written hierarchically within geometric figures such as ovals or boxes, which
are connected to each other through lines and linking words.

The use of concept maps allows you to organize and understand ideas in a
meaningful way.

Concepts: these refer to events, objects, situations or facts and are usually
represented within circles or geometric figures called nodes.

Each concept represented in the concept map is relevant to the meaning of the
higher-ranking concept, which can sometimes be the title or central theme.

They must be presented in an organized way, so that relationships exist only

between the most significant ones, since if they relate all of them to each other, it
would result in an incomprehensible network of connections. Furthermore,
concepts should not have verbs or form complete sentences, nor should they be
repeated within the map.
