teams of 11 members, who face each other with the objective of putting a ball into
the opposing team's goal and scoring a goal.
Volleyball : It is a court game between two teams of six players per side
that is played by hitting a ball to the opposite side over a net. When the ball hits
the floor or leaves one of the two sides of the court, it is a point or an opportunity
to serve for the other team.
Volleyball is a discipline currently practiced throughout the
country, although for a long time it did not have a professional
league and many of the national team players had to play abroad,
Venezuela has stood out in this sport in the Games. Central
Americans and the Caribbean, Bolivarians, South Americans and
Pan Americans.
Basketball : It is a team sport , played between two teams of five players each
during four periods or quarters of ten or twelve minutes each. The team's objective is to score
points by putting a ball through the basket , a hoop 3.05 meters above the playing court
surface from which a net hangs. The score for each basket or basket is two or three points,
depending on the position from which the shot is made, or one, if it is a free throw due to a foul
by an opposing player. The winning team is the one that obtains the greatest number of points.
Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the country, with the Venezuelan Professional
Basketball League (LPB) being played every year, being the most competitive .
The most recent feat of Venezuelan basketball was achieved by the professional team Guaros
de Lara in 2016, winning the League of the Americas championship, after beating Baurú of
Brazil in the city of Barquisimeto in the final of the tournament. In this way, Guaros de Lara
became the first Venezuelan team to win the Basketball League of the Americas, and the
second Venezuelan team (along with Trotamundos de Carabobo) to win a tournament of
international magnitude.
