Problem Set 2

1. On a very cold day at the South Pole, the temperature of air is –60oF. Assuming
that, the air remains isothermal up to a 10,000 ft elevation and that the pressure
at the sea level is 1 atm, calculate the pressure at 10,000 ft.
2.

3. Water is flowing in a fire hose with a velocity of 1.0 m/s and a pressure of 200000
Pa. At the nozzle the pressure decreases to atmospheric pressure (101300 Pa),
there is no change in height. Use the Bernoulli equation to calculate the velocity
of the water exiting the nozzle.

4. Determine the pressure at D.
