AIM

The purpose of this procedure is to make known the dangers and risks that the worker
will be exposed to during the carpentry task and the appropriate way to carry out the
floating floor installation task.

SCOPE

All personnel involved in floating floor installation tasks of the DECOART SPA
company.

TASK DESCRIPTION
A floor is called floating due to its way of installation, this means that it is not fixed to
the ground, it is mounted on top, but without nailing or screwing it. It can be a floating
laminate floor, a floating engineered floor.

The market offers a wide range of floating floors of different appearances: PVC
floating floor, waterproof laminate floor; laminate wood flooring, or its varieties of
natural wood imitation, patinated, stained, in light and dark colors.
Before starting to lay laminate flooring on an existing floor, it is necessary to install a
polyethylene blanket or self-leveling foam. This film or sheet is around 2mm thick and
serves to cushion the contact of the floating floor on the support base, contributing to
greater soundproofing.
The base for installing the floating floor must be even, free of unevenness (well or
ridges). Laminate floor boards are thin and may show imperfections.
If there are minor "ridges", they will have to be removed with the help of a hammer and
chisel. If the "pits" are not more than 2mm, you can fill them by making a patch using
ceramic glue, but in thin layers.
The first task before having a floating floor installed is to roll out the self-leveling foam
over the existing floor. As it comes in rolls, it is convenient to overlap the joints (20cm)
and glue them with sealing tape so that it acts as a continuous membrane. It is important
that the polyethylene blanket goes over and "rises" a few centimeters above the wall to
ensure a better seal of the baseboard (skirt).

The plates are joined with a system commonly called click, without adhesives (tongue
and groove system). The sides slide into each other at 45º and are locked when lowered
and left flat. If you need to unlock them you must lift them at 90º.
The first board is already placed. To place the second board, it is convenient to use a
protective block or wood to support it on this board and hit it with a hammer.
Cut the last piece of the row, leaving a gap or separation (as mentioned) when it reaches
the wall so that it acts as an expansion joint. For this you can use a knife saw or a
circular saw.
To continue the installation of laminate flooring on the following boards, it is advisable
to alternate the short wooden joints , so that they coincide with every other board.
This way you will ensure that they are not on the same line as the previous row.
When you have covered the entire surface of the room, to finish the installation of the
floating flooring, be sure to remove the spacers from the edges of the walls. Cover the
free spaces between the wall and the floor (expansion joints) with wooden baseboards
or skirting boards. You must do this along the entire perimeter of the walls of the room.

PRESENT RISKS

1. ON THE TASKS :

 Contact with sharp or sharp elements when handling specialty tools and
materials.
 Contact with electrical energy in the use of power tools, extension cords in poor
condition or lying on the ground in the presence of water or humidity.
 Falls from the same level, when driving through the construction site.
 Overexertion in materials handling.

2. IN THE WORKPLACE:

 Work fronts or circulation routes with materials in disarray.

 Slippery floors due to the presence of water or release agent in slab forms.-
 Slab molding sectors, poorly structured or unfinished.
 Obstructed circulation areas.
 Contamination with suspended dust, due to the operation of a portable or bench
circular saw, in poorly ventilated places.
 Work fronts at low levels, without protection against falling objects from upper
floors.

FLOATING FLOOR

ON THE TASKS

 Use the personal protection elements necessary for the risk to be covered.
 Only use power tools that have their protections, cables, plugs and extensions in
good condition.
 When performing heavy lifting activities, avoid repetitions without rest
intervals, be sure to bend your knees to pick up loads from the floor, and avoid
twisting your trunk with loads on your arms.

IN THE WORKPLACE

 Keep the work front clean and tidy.

 Avoid carrying out wood sawing work in poorly ventilated places.
 Wear a safety helmet at all times on the job.
 When carrying out work at first levels, make sure you are protected from
possible falling objects.

RESTRICTIONS

 Face protection and respirator when using a circular saw.
