Lessons 9 & 10 - Identifying and Responding To Unsafe Situations
In the following activity, you are to use the names in the list below and add them into the circle of
trust. It is important to note that some people may be in the close circle who you really trust, while
others might be in the outside circle who you may find it challenging to trust.
In this family dinner scenario you will be given a number, which corresponds to one of the scenarios
below. You are to write a response on how you would deal with the situation and at least one
person or service you would talk to for support.
1) You are sitting around the dinner table and your little sister whispers to you that she is being
bullied at school. She also says please dont tell anyone
2) You are sitting around the dinner table and think this is the right time to tell your family that
you were pressured into drinking alcohol at your cousin’s wedding. You don’t like to be peer
pressured into anything and have felt anxious about more family gatherings
3) You are sitting around the dinner table and get a text from a friend that Alex (your best
friend) has been involved in a serious car accident
4) You are sitting around the dinner table and a cousin keeps staring at you and you feel very
uncomfortable
5) You are sitting around the dinner table and your family are in a heated argument, which
makes you feel very uncomfortable

Activity 4 – Informed decisions
Scenarios:
1. You are going to have a parent-free party. You know there will be under age drinking.
While you are there someone offers you a drink.
2. You have been chatting to someone from your school online. He/she has asked you to
send a picture of yourself wearing just your swimming costume.
3. You were driven by a friend to a party and they were meant to be your sober driver.
However at the party they had only 2 drinks that were 3 hours ago. You both leave the
party and go to get into the car.
4. You have been feeling ‘weird’ lately. Everything is getting to you and you have been
unable to control your emotions. You have had more sad days than happy days.
5. You have been in a relationship with your partner for 6 months now. They want to take it
to the next stage by engaging in intercourse. However your not sure you are ready.
For each of the scenarios complete the following worksheet by completing the tables
which will help you make a decision on each of the scenarios.
