 They are easily upgradeable and technologically expandable, simply by adding
new devices through their ports, be they sound cards, video cards, capture
devices, alarm systems, updating hard drives or ram memory, etc.

 You don't have to carry a charger around your PC all day, you plug it into the
power and forget about energy problems.

 Having it in the comfort of your home, being able to watch series without being
disturbed by external noises.

 Greater durability of components, less overheating.

 Spacious keyboard, without size suppression, allowing you to write comfortably

and intuitively.

 Mouse that is easy to manipulate, without getting desperate as sometimes

happens with the touchpad of notebooks.

 Larger and more comfortable screen to view (of course, depending on the
monitor you have).

 They can be assembled as desired with different components that we want.

Disadvantages of Desktop computer:

 They generate more lint and dust, it is recommended to perform services every
6 months for general maintenance.

 As we obviously know, they are not portable, which for people who study who
need to plan project deliveries or for those who work and need to work quickly
in other places is not the best.

 It is not advisable to work in an electrical storm; if lightning strikes nearby it can

damage the power supply and other components.

Characteristics

There are three large groups of laptops or notebooks: those called “ desktop
replacement ”, “ normal ” and “ ultralight ”.

In the first group there are several brands such as Toshiba and HP . The models
are large and heavy, but they are designed so that you do not carry them all the
time, you just have to leave them at home or office from time to time. They seek to
replace desktop PCs and have everything necessary to take advantage of
multimedia options, make audio and video edits, and work with graphics programs.

Within the “ normal ” ones, which offer a balance between power and mobility to
work with Office programs and eventually connect to the Internet, this is where the
range is broader such as Dell, Acer, Apple, Sony, etc. The characteristics can be
several:
(The features will be mentioned in this group to have them as a base and give you
an idea of what you will need if you choose one to replace the desktop one or an
ultralight one).

 First, the speed of the processors varies, it depends on your budget, but in
general they should be low consumption (Intel, AMD).
 Although for now you don't need it if it is preferable to have wireless cards or
WiFi (wireless fidelity) also known as 802.11b, already inside the device
and not as an additional card, to be connected to the Internet wherever you
go. It is also convenient that it has a connector for a 10/100 Ethernet
network, in case you want to connect it to a conventional wired network.
 512 MB RAM , at least as a base, but the more memory you have, the
better.
 Hard drive , almost all come with 40 GB, a reasonable size for these days.
 The CD-R recorder is essential and if you can, include the DVD burner at
once.
 As for connectivity, it should at least have two USB ports and a FireWire (or
IEEE1392) in addition to those used for the mouse and printer (which will
surely be USB).
 The screen is a personal option since if you are going to use it to watch
DVDs, then if you need a wide one, yes, make sure it has active matrix
technology because it will allow you to see the image from any angle.
 Finally, it is important to use the keyboard for a few moments to see if you
get comfortable or not.

The “ ultralight ” ones, as their name suggests, weigh almost nothing, are the size
of a professional notebook and, due to these characteristics, sometimes they do
not include all the functions that the others do and the price is higher.

The Tablet PCs that emerged a few years ago as an intermediate option between
handhelds (PDA, like Palm) and laptops deserve a separate section. Their main
feature is that they have a pencil that is used to write on the screen. They work
with the Windows Tablet PC OS, and are lighter and cheaper than laptops. Later,
convertible computers went on sale that can be used as laptops or as a Tablet PC
by simply rotating the screen and resting it on the keyboard.
The advantages of a laptop are the following:

 Maximum portability. You can move with it everywhere, without any difficulty
(especially if you travel).
 Comfortable design.
 Amazing integration of parts.
 Saving many external peripheral devices.
 UPS Savings.
 Easy internet connectivity, thanks to the integrated wireless card.
 Saving space and cables (what you don't have with a desktop).

But, it also has its strong disadvantages:

 Less robustness than desktops.

 Limited capacity (desktop computers have a greater performance capacity due
to the modularity of their devices).
 Difficult memory upgrade, video card, processor.
 Difficult internal cleaning.
 It is very delicate.
 It is difficult to find replacement parts locally (and they are generally more
expensive than desktop parts).
 If your keyboard or monitor breaks, your laptop is disabled until it can be
repaired.
