WORLD FOLKLORE DAY

(August 22nd)
Every August 22, Folklore Day, declared by UNESCO, is celebrated around the
world. This date was chosen in commemoration of the letter published by the
British archaeologist William G. Thorns in the London magazine “Atheneum”,
where the term “folklore” was first used.

This term is a word created with the union of “folk” (people) and lore (knowledge)
and is used to refer to the ancestral manifestations of cultures around the world,
such as the arts, music and customs of the people that They are transmitted from
generation to generation. Folklore is the authentic expression of a people that
encompasses the traditions that distinguish one culture from another.

In Peru, a series of cultural manifestations develop through different customs and

traditions that persist over the years. We can find manifestations of folklore in
many areas of the country, with dances that demonstrate the joy of each town in
celebrations of patron saints or customs of various regions.

Peruvian folklore is probably the most varied and rich in South America. This is
because this country is located exactly where the oldest civilizations born on the
continent lived. This folklore consists of three geographical expressions: the
coastal, the Andean and the Amazonian.

GET TO THE TOKYO 2020 OLYMPIC
GAMES”

Destiny had great things in store for Gladys Tejeda, the Peruvian long-distance
runner. Just a few days ago, the athlete managed to obtain the gold medal in the
Women's Marathon of the 2019 Pan American Games, held in Lima, showing an
impeccable level. The great work done during all these years sees its fruits,
although he does not think about keeping that achievement alone.

competitions in which she will participate, such as the Pan American Games . “I
usually train daily in the Pampas of Chacamarca, it is a very beautiful place. The
Battle of Junín took place there,” mentioned the medalist, with a proud smile.

Since she was little, the athlete knew that sacrifice will be the only way to achieve
success. Tejeda confessed to Trome that, when she was little, her mother did not
have enough resources to help her with the clothing she needed, she even had to
borrow sneakers. “They were tight, I lost the race and ended up with swollen

UNESCO SENT LETTER TO THE PERUVIAN
GOVERNMENT REQUESTING
INFORMATION ABOUT CHINCHERO
AIRPORT

The Agency wants to know about the possible effects that the airport would cause
in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Historians and archaeologists questioned the
project.

The Chinchero airport is one of the most questioned projects in the Cusco region.
It has been more than 40 years in which the work cannot be executed. During his
presidential message, Martín Vizcarra announced its construction in 2020, but this
initiative faced new obstacles.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

has doubts about the project.

The interest in knowing this information comes after a series of questions from
historians and archaeologists who have shown their rejection of the airport.
According to what they alleged in different spaces, it constitutes a “serious
threat.” They support it by the effects that noise, increased traffic and
uncontrolled urbanization would have on the town of Chinchero, Ollantaytambo
and the world wonder Machupicchu. Regarding this, the English newspaper “The
Guardian” published a report in which several local archaeologists denounced
that the planes would pass at “low altitude”, causing damage to the Inca ruins.
