INTRODUCTION

► Global warming is an increasingly tangible reality on the planet. The most discouraging
forecasts predict that the catastrophes caused by climate change will be irreversible starting
in 2030. However, it doesn't seem like the world is doing much about it. And meanwhile, the
planet continues to get sick.

What does this all mean? Can we do something?

Below we will detail the concept, causes, consequences and solutions to global warming.
WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING?
► Global warming is the increase or increase in the temperature of the planet , more
specifically the temperature of the atmosphere or air and the water of the planet rises,
especially in the oceans. However, it has been in recent decades that there has been the
most rise in temperatures around the world.
► Every year temperatures increase and this makes it increasingly hotter
and there are changes in the way we have to live, both for us and for
the rest of the animals and plants.
► It is necessary to explain that global warming is something natural,
which has happened on Earth more times than the ice ages. The
problem is that humans make global warming faster , causing it to
occur in much less time than it would if it occurred completely
naturally, and this has negative consequences.
CLIMATE CHANGE
► Global warming results in climate change. And this is where one of the most
important concepts you need to know lies: cold waves, rainy or dry seasons, and any
notable change or unprecedented climate effect have to do with global warming.

► This means that just because the planet is getting

hotter doesn't mean it will always be hotter. As Earth's
average temperature rises, winds and ocean currents
move heat around the globe in ways that can cool
some areas, warm others, and change the amount of
rain and snow that falls. As a result, the climate
changes differently in different areas.

► But the certainty is this: the climate is changing and that puts the planet at risk.
CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING

But what really makes the planet hotter every day? These are the main
causes.

► Power plants that burn fossil fuels.

► The food industry, especially livestock.
► Burning of transportation gasoline.
► Deforestation.
► Increased use of chemical fertilizers on cropland.
► Forest fires.
► Decomposition of solid waste.
POWER PLANTS THAT BURN FOSSIL FUELS
► Nowadays, electricity is essential to maintain lifestyle. But
electrical energy in most cases is generated through the combustion of
fossil fuels, which releases CO2 and promotes global warming.

► 40% of the United States' CO2 emissions come from electricity

production, and coal burning accounts for 93% of the electric
utility industry's emissions.

► The move to generating electricity from renewable energies is

vital to reduce climate change.
THE FOOD INDUSTRY, ESPECIALLY THE
LIVESTOCK INDUSTRY
► In addition to CO2, methane is another gas that affects global warming.
Although its production volume is smaller, its effects are as serious or more
serious than that of CO2, since it has a greater capacity to maintain heat,
and also interacts with other molecules that promote the greenhouse
effect.

► The main cause of methane emissions is the agricultural industry, to the

point that it is estimated that approximately half of global warming gas
emissions related to food come from meat production.

► To a lesser extent, industrial rice cultivation also generates methane

release.
BURNING GASOLINE FROM TRANSPORTATION

► It is considered that 33% of CO2 emissions come from

transportation. On the one hand, because of the typical
automobile culture of modernity. But also as a consequence of
globalization: every product we acquire online from a remote
region of the world must be moved.

► Multiplied by the amount of world population, this generates

an impressive increase in gas emissions that generate global
warming.
DEFORESTATION
► It is said that forests are the lungs of the planet, and it is not a simple saying.
Trees clean the air and remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. In
addition, they help retain moisture, lowering the temperature and
avoiding major droughts.

However, the use of forests as fuel (for both firewood and

charcoal), the appetite for firewood and paper products, the need
for grazing space for livestock, and the use of tropical forest lands
for vegetable plantations have caused forests to shrink
significantly.
INCREASE IN FERTILIZER USE
CHEMICALS ON FARMLAND
► In the last half of the 20th century, the use of
chemical fertilizers (as opposed to the historical use
of animal manure) has increased dramatically.

► The high application rate of nitrogen-rich fertilizers has

effects on the heat storage of croplands. As if that were not
enough, when rain washes them away, these chemicals fall
into the oceans, causing a strong environmental impact.

LAV
► With the frequency that happens due to the extensive contamination

FOREST FIRES
that exists in all types of environments; Forest fires are proving to be a
really important factor when trying to evade or prevent global warming.

► With the constancy of these events in nature; It is much more

complicated to end the breakdown of the ozone layer caused by global
warming given that it contributes in principle to these damages
occurring more quickly and having their effects much more intensely
than estimated according to environmental deterioration statistics. .
DECOMPOSITION OF SOLID WASTE

► Garbage is a very contributing tool when talking about global

warming; since with their degeneration and decomposition they not only
leave negative traces depending on the waste material but also cause
forest fires; due to its incidence with the sun's rays and thus become
intertwined with global warming; leaving many gases in the
greenhouse effect as a product of burning.

► In the same way, with the decomposition of garbage, the

anaerobic fermentation explicitly given in those organic wastes
can be added and they function as a kind of fertilizer and a good
number of consequences against environmental care.
CONSEQUENCES OF WARMING
GLOBAL
► We've talked a lot about global warming so far, but maybe you still don't
understand what makes it so serious. You may not think that having a little bit
more temperature is so bad, but the reality is that this affects the ecosystem so
much that even life as we know it could be at risk.
► These are the most tragic consequences of global warming:

Melting and rising sea levels.

► Greater droughts.

Loss of crops and food shortages.

► Disappearance of animal species.
Impact on ecosystems.

MELTING AND INCREASE IN THE LEVEL OF THE
SEA
►Perhaps the first and most important consequence of global
warming is that the planet's ice is melting. This may not seem very
serious to you, but it is. Firstly, because much of the drinking water
we consume comes from large masses of ice.

► Second, because this melting causes sea level rise. This implies that
a large part of the Earth's surface could be completely submerged under
the ocean if this melting continues. Barcelona, New York, Rio de
Janeiro, Shanghai, Cairo and Sydney could be among the first cities to
disappear.
INCREASED DROUGHT

► Another result that describes the constant effect of global warming is the
appearance of droughts; natural aspects that prevent the correct life cycle
of the human species; plant and fauna species.

► Everything goes hand in hand, if there is no vegetation, herbivorous

animals would not have food which would lead to their disappearance; If
these disappear, the carnivorous species would not have food either and
all beings on earth would end with involution.

► Each of these environmental transformations have one point in common

and that is global warming; This being the fundamental factor that we
must attack head-on; taking better care of the planet and making it last as
long as possible with totally ecological habits.
CROP LOSS AND FOOD SHORTAGES

►Crops depend directly on the ecosystem. The change in

temperature with its consequences on sea level, the availability of
drinking water and drought, among others, endanger the production
of the most basic foods for human consumption.

► This means less food, more poverty and more people going hungry.
DISAPPEARANCE OF ANIMAL SPECIES

With the change in climates and environments suitable for life;

Many species, both animals and plants, can be greatly affected,
dying in large numbers, which would imply the appearance of
extinction conditions in many types of flora and fauna.

This implies that in the long term the evolution of species will be
truncated due to the modification that human activities have caused
in natural selection.

IMPACT ON ECOSYSTEMS

► Based on the changes that global warming is generating;

Climate and environmental changes are beginning to be present in the
same way; which implies a close relationship with
ecosystem variants after extensive pollution and its
consequences.

► The conditions of all habitats are becoming critical;

Therefore, each of the evolutions is paralyzed, leading to its
degeneration and having to live in survival conditions,
adapting to an unfavorable environment for many of the
aspects that identify us as living beings.
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN DO?

► With all that said, you may feel a little hopeless. However, all is not lost. There
are some changes that you can make every day to help improve the situation and,
above all, that can serve to raise awareness on a global level.
► These are some simple actions you can take:

► Electricity use.
► Lightning .
► Electric cars.
► Recyclable materials.
► Plant trees.
► Raise awareness among others.
ELECTRICITY USE

► Avoid leaving the lights on when you go out or turning them on

when you have daylight to illuminate what you need. In addition;
Don't waste energy that, in addition to being expensive, is highly
polluting.

► Preferable in the example of kitchens, opt for natural gas or install

solar thermal tanks if you want to heat something; They are
interesting and also a very economical, non-polluting option.

► Unplug electrical appliances when you are not using them, many of
them waste energy when they are plugged in and not in use. In
addition to being a way to save; It will also be a good way to
take care of the environment.
LIGHTNING

► It has been described that more than 10% of energy is dedicated exclusively
to lighting; Therefore, resorting to the use of ecological lamps or, in other
words, low energy consumption lamps considerably favors this aspect.

Because they are durable and have a minimum range of contamination, they
are ideal since they prolong the bulb replacement periods. You can also
place a motion sensor for automatic on and off; representing a very
effective way to save electricity; energy and above all useful life of the
lamps.
ELECTRIC CARS
► To reduce the consumption and exposure of carbon dioxide emitted into
the atmosphere, it is essential to reduce the use of fossil fuels such as oil
and coal. A feasible option to reduce it is to avoid the use of conventional
cars by replacing them with electric
cars.

► If it is difficult to access, you can

resort to the alternative of walking,
which is a way to take care of your
health and exercise. But if it is longer
distances, you can use the bicycle since
it is a means of transportation that
does not use fuel and therefore is an
effective way to take care of the
natural environment or also use public transportation.
RECYCLABLE MATERIALS
► Choose products that come in glass containers as a preference,
compared to plastic ones, as they have a greater capacity to be
recycled. Likewise, avoid foods that come in expanded ternopore
trays; They are much more polluting and have a greater
predisposition to burning in the sun's rays.
► Don't forget to take advantage of the recycling sheets; You do this
by printing on both sides and using them as much as you can
before throwing them in the trash; Prefer lighter sheets since they
are the least polluting.
► By practicing all these habits; The planet will be establishing a
noticeable change with respect to the pollution that it
experiences today. Keep in mind that change begins with the will
of each person.
PLANT TREES

► Planting a tree is
enough to help absorb
approximately 1 ton
of CO2 from the
atmosphere
throughout its life. So
the solution is to
plant them and,
what's more, replant
entire forests.
► Finally, children must be encouraged to be part of the solution by

RAISE AWARENESS TO
OTHERS
explaining this to those close to them and spreading the message, both
about the problem it represents and the possible solutions and applying
them within their capacity.

Adults and children can learn all of these possible solutions and begin to
apply those within their reach and little by little do more, becoming part
of the solution that will help guarantee a future for them and the next
generations.
