1. Describe the different components/ elements of weather.
2. Identify and describe common weather instruments.
3. Describe how the different components of weather is reported in a weather chart.
4. Identify the trends in a simple weather charts.
5. Infer weather condition in each sample weather chart and make a sample weather
report.

B. Review:
Directions: Identify the processes involved in the water cycle. Choose your answers
from the box

1. When water vapor in the atmosphere is cooled and turn into water droplets
__________________ takes place.
2. ______________is the process of turning liquid into water vapor.
3. Animals and humans give off water particles when they perspire. This process is
called __________________.
4. When droplets of water in the clouds fall back into the earth as rain, this process
is called _________________.
5. . When the water particles are released from the leaves of plants ______________
occurs.

C. Lesson Proper:
The Components/Elements of Weather and Commonly Used Weather Instruments

 Weather is the condition of atmosphere in a particular place at a given time.

 Air temperature, air pressure, wind speed and direction/velocity, humidity,

precipitation or rain and cloud.

 Air temperature is the hotness or coldness of air. It is measured by thermometer.

The temperature is high on hot weather days and it is low during rainy days.

 The amount of moisture in the air is called humidity. A psychrometer or

hygrometer measures humidity.

 The speed of the wind maybe fast or slow, light or moderate. An anemometer
measured wind speed.

 Wind direction is the direction from which the wind is blowing. Wind vane is a
device that tells the direction of the wind. The four letters N E W S of the wind vane
represents the four directions: North, East, West, and South.

 Cloud formation. The sky is clear when the weather is fine. The sky maybe clear,
partly cloudy or cloudy depending on the kind of temperature for the day.

 Precipitation occurs when so much water has condensed that the air cannot hold
it anymore, the clouds get heavy and the water falls back to the earth in the form of
rain, hail or snow. A rain gauge is used to measure the amount of rainfall.

 Weather chart tells us about the weather components that determine the weather
condition at any given time.
