Export De nitions
Export de nitions provide you with a template for structuring the export of target group member data, included in a target group
or a campaign, to CSV les. Export de nitions are based on the attributes of segmentation pro les used in customer
segmentation.
Use
Export de nitions are available for business administrators and are primarily used as a template to perform the following:
Export target group member data to CSV les for further processing.
Extract a contact’s personal data from the SAP Marketing Cloud system upon request and send it to that contact.
Export de nitions are based on the attributes of segmentation pro les. You are provided with the prede ned segmentation pro le
Contacts, so all attributes of this pro le are available.
Export de nitions are available in the Automation tab of campaigns details, if the campaign category contains the Create Export
File action.
If you de ne an export de nition with more than 30 attributes, this could cause severe problems with memory consumption
during the export of a target group or a campaign. Memory consumption and performance during an export depends on the
following:
The size of the target group (number of contacts for which the export is executed)
The complexity of the segmentation model (pro le). Large amounts of data must be processed in the following cases:
If data retrieval using segmentation results in several data source records for the same contact
We recommend that you use as few attributes as possible within the export de nition for the following reasons:
The export is not designed as a mass export of data, but rather to create export les with contact data for email or phone
campaigns.
The export functionality is not just a retrieval of records with selected attributes from a database. For dynamic target
groups the contact keys and their attribute values are retrieved using segmentation rules, based on the segmentation
pro le and model.
The size of the export le, the number of attributes, the number of contacts, and the data retrieved using segmentation all impact
memory consumption and performance. Although the creation of the le is possible, when the le is downloaded, the system will
run into errors if the le size exceeds 2.1 GB.
When creating an export de nition, you select the attributes such as sales district or city, which are to be made available for the
Export usage. In addition, you determine the usage itself for which these attributes are to be provided, for example, for the export
of target group member data.

You select an appropriate export pro le for this usage. Export pro les include settings for the export de nition to which they are
assigned. For the data export usage, you select the export pro le File Export, which determines the inner format of an export le.
The available attributes for an export de nition result from the SAP HANA data sources are determined by the segmentation
pro le.
Therefore, in Export De nitions, you must select an appropriate segmentation pro le to receive the required attributes for
selection. You can create and assign data sources to segmentation objects in the Segmentation con g app. For more information,
see Assign Data Sources and Data Sources.
Choose the New pushbutton in the Details section and provide a name in the De nition eld. Select the required
segmentation pro le and target from the corresponding dropdown boxes and save your entries.
Select an export de nition from the Overview section. Change the name of the de nition in the De nition eld and make
all additional changes you require (target and attributes). Choose the Save as New pushbutton to save the export
de nition as a new entry in the Overview section.
To update an existing export de nition, you make the required changes without changing the de nition name and choose
the Save pushbutton instead of the Save as New pushbutton.
Select the required export de nition from the Overview section and choose the Delete pushbutton.
Note
Deletion is not possible if the export de nition is used in target groups or campaigns that are not discarded or completed.
In the Details section, you can select the Add Object ID and Name checkbox. This allows the system to do the following:
Add the ID and name of the target group to the CSV le you export from the Export facet
Add the ID and name of the campaign to the CSV le you export from the Automation facet using the Create Export File
action
In this section, you can also change the Field Separator and Multiple Value Separator values. The globally de ned separators are
shown by default, but they may be overwritten, and the Multiple Value Separator may be set to be blank. A blank Multiple Value
Separator eld will result in each attribute value being written on a separate line, instead of on the same line as in the examples
below. You may only overwrite the separators in export de nitions using the Export usage type.
In the Available table, you are provided with the attributes that correspond to the segmentation pro le. The Data Source column
lists the SAP HANA data source from which each attribute results.
To use the required attributes in your export de nition, you select the required attributes and move them to the Selected for
Export De nition table by choosing the appropriate selector pushbutton.

If you do not want to use particular attributes in your export de nition anymore, you select the required attributes in the Selected
for Export De nition table and move them back to the Available table by choosing the appropriate selector pushbutton.
You can sort the attributes selected for the export de nition to de ne the order in which the attributes appear in the
corresponding export le. You can choose between six pushbuttons to move the selected attributes:
Semantic Attributes
To every attribute selected for the export de nition, you can assign a semantic attribute by selecting it from the dropdown box.
Some attribute/semantic attribute assignments are mandatory (see below). Semantic attributes allow the transmission of emails
and ensure the execution of marketing permission checks.
For usage Export: Contact Key, Email Address, and Mobile Number. You can do the following:
Assign Contact Key and Email Address so that email permissions are checked
Assign Contact Key and Mobile Number, so that text message permissions are checked
Assign Contact Key, Email Address, and Mobile Number, so that email permission is checked. In this case, email
overrides text message.
The Sorting function allows you to specify an attribute as relevant for sorting in ascending or descending order. This means that
the entries in the export le are sorted according to the selected attribute in the required order. You can specify more than one
attribute as sorting-relevant. The position of a sorting-relevant attribute in the Selected for Export De nition table determines the
sorting: The entries in the export le are rst sorted according to the rst attribute in the table speci ed for sorting, then they are
sorted according to the next attribute in the table speci ed for sorting, and so on. From the second attribute on, the values are
sorted and combined in one eld.
Example
The export de nition contains a name and a family name. Both attributes are speci ed as sorting-relevant. If the family name’s
position in the table is higher, then the family name is the leading sorting criterion. In the export le, the lines are sorted rst
according to the family name and then according to the name.

In the export le, you receive one line per target group member. So, if an attribute has multiple values this results in multiple
attribute values in one eld of one line in the export le. By default, the sequence in such a eld is random. If you want to know
which value belongs to a value from another multi-value attribute, this is not possible by default.
The Leading function allows you to specify an attribute as leading for a set of connected attributes (for example, the product ID is
the leading attribute for product description and product order quantity). This leading attribute ensures the identi cation of
values in multi-value attributes that belong together.
Example
In this example, the Leading function is combined with the Sorting and the Keep Duplicates functions.

Account ID
Name Ascending
Product ID Ascending
Quantity Yes

The leading attribute ensures that you can identify which product ID belongs to which quantity. Note that the sorting also has
been adapted (in the raw data, the sequence of product IDs was 4711, 4713, 4712).
In the export le, you receive one line per target group member. So, if an attribute has multiple values this results in multiple
attribute values in one eld of one line in the export le. If the same attribute value occurs several times, the system, by default,
combines the several occurrences of the same value to one single displayed value.
The Keep Duplicates checkbox allows you to prevent the combination of several occurrences of the same value to one single
value. If the checkbox is selected for an attribute, the system displays all values of this attribute in one eld of one line, even if the
values are duplicates.
Example
In this example for an export le, the Keep Duplicates checkbox was selected for the attribute Product Quantity as the
duplicate product quantity values 1 for account 1000 and 4 for account 2000 are displayed more than once.
In the second example for the same export le, the Keep Duplicates checkbox was not selected for the attribute Product
Quantity. The two occurrences of the product quantity values 1 for account 1000 and 4 for account 2000 are both combined to
one single displayed value.
For an attribute such as the product quantity it is reasonable to keep the duplicate entries. Otherwise you lose the information
about how often a customer has bought a certain product as same quantities are to be combined.
