Japan is an island country in East Asia
located in the Pacific Ocean. It is an
archipelago made up of 6,852 islands

Tokyo ( 東京 ), officially Metropolis of


Tokyo, is the capital, located in the center-
east of the island of Honshu, in the Kanto
region. It stands out internationally for
being the city with the largest extension and
population in the world

It consists of the Sun represented by a red
disk in the center of a white field.

It is officially called Nisshōki ( 日 章 旗 )


"disk-shaped sun flag", but is commonly
known as Hinomaru ( 日 の 丸 ) "sun
disk".

The flag has a 2:3 ratio. The diameter of


the solar disk is 3/5 the height of the flag
and is placed directly in the center.

The official language of Japan is Japanese, although
the use of other languages such as Korean,
Mandarin, Spanish, English and French is also
common.

In Japanese an alphabet is not used, if not a


syllabary, and in writing 3 types of symbols are used,
the Hiragana ( ひらがな ), the Katakana ( カタカ
ナ ) and the Kanjis ( 漢字 ). Hiragana and Katakana
are syllabaries, but kanjis are logograms, symbols
that instead of letters or syllables can represent
complete ideas and concepts.
It is famous for Hanami festival
Hanami ( 花見 ) is the Japanese tradition
of observing the beauty of flowers.
The Hanami festival occurs in the period
when cherry blossoms are in bloom.

The Japanese flock to parks and gardens,


where families and friends gather under
the shade of cherry trees and, as a picnic,
share food while gazing at the Sakura
( 桜 / さくら ).

It is a type of wrestling where 2 opponents face
each other in a circular area. The rules are:
Anyone who touches the ground with any part
of their body, except the soles of their feet, is
eliminated.
Anyone who makes contact with the outside of
the circle with any part of his body, is
eliminated.
Anyone using illegal techniques, such as eye
hitting, strangling, hair pulling, punching or
dislocation, is eliminated.
Anyone who loses their mawashi ( 廻し ) (the
only clothing used in combat) is eliminated.
People’s personality: What are the
japanese like?
It is often thought that the Japanese are
usually very cold, serious and distant, but
nothing could be further from the truth. The
Japanese are very respectful, and this respect
influences them to appear cold. At first the
Japanese are very respectful of your privacy,
avoiding asking things that they think you
would not want to talk about, but then they
are very nice and funny. In Japan people have
a feeling of community, and this combined
with respect makes people take care of public
property because they consider it their own.

Do not use tattoos: In Japan tattoos are
related to the Yakuza ( ヤクザ ), the
Japanese mafia, that's why they are
frowned upon.
Must learn Japanese: Although the
English language is common in Japan,
several signs are written exclusively in
Japanese
May want to visit an animal cafe:
In Harajuku ( 原宿 ), Tokyo,
there are some cafes where you can enjoy
the company of an animal while eating,
you can pet and feed it, interact with it.
Music: Joe Hisaishi

professionally as Joe Hisaishi, is a prolific film
music composer and orchestra director,
