Re: Invitation to the 2024 Eco-Schools Eco-Challenge Competitions and Awards Ceremony to be held on
the 26th of July 2024 at Mukuvisi Woodlands.
We kindly invite your school and the teacher in charge of Eco-Schools to participate in the 2024 Eco-
Challenge Competitions to be held on Friday the 26th of July 2024 at Mukuvisi Woodlands Education and
Environment Centre. The event will start at 8:00am and ends at 14:00hrs.
Theme `
Our Eco-schools theme is “My Environment, My Future, and My Responsibility” and will this year
focusing on ‘Greening the Schools (making the schools climate ready) ‘with the Green Schools
Concept. The theme covers all our thematic areas of the Eco-Schools Programme being
implemented by the Schools. We seek to improve people’s lives whilst ensuring national
environmental sustainability, and caring for the Earth through the Greening Schools pillar i n or der t o
underscore the Quality Standard on Green Schools for a whole-school approach to climate change
education.
The Eco-Challenge Competition is held annually as a tool for evaluating environmental stewardship and
creates environmental awareness among primary and secondary schools involved in the Eco-Schools
Programme in Zimbabwe. The eco-schools programme is run by the Mukuvisi Woodlands Environment
Education Centre in collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
The thematic areas covered by the competition include; Climate Change adaptations and mitigation,
Waste Management, Resource Use (Water, Soil, Energy), Nature and Biodiversity, Global and Local
Issues and Heritage.
COMPETITION CATEGORIES
Schools will compete in following Categories:
1.1 Climate Change: (the causes, effects and mitigation of climate change).
1.2 Wetland Life: (impression of ecosystems in a well conserved wetland).
1.3 Forest Life: (Impression of ecosystems in well-conserved forest)
1.4 Waste Management: (impression of waste Management system at School)
1.5 Birds of Prey: (Impression of threats to Birds of Prey) (e.g., Vultures, Owls, Fish eagle)

2.0 QUIZ: Primary Schools.
2.1 Quiz for Primary Schools (Environmental issues (All thematic areas).
3.1 Quiz for Secondary Schools (environmental issues, (all thematic areas)
2.1 Climate Change: (A model Design depicting causes, effects and mitigation of Climate).
2.2 CAMPFIRE Village: (A Model Design depicting an ideal Campfire Village, close to a Wildlife
Park / Area).
2.3 Land Degradation (Model clearly depicting degradation trends)
2.4 Recycling (A model showing recycling activity or products).
2.5 Energy: (Model Design showing sources of Renewable Energy and Non-Renewable Energy).
3 Treasure Hunt for Primary Schools (participants learn language skills while engaging in the
problem-solving engagements)
4 Survival Skills for Secondary Schools (critical thinking - it’s about techniques that a person may use
in order to sustain life in any type of natural environment situation).
EDUTAINMENT
1. Song and dance (This is done for entertainment).
2. Drama (should be performed with the alignment of the theme of the year)
SCHOOL EXHIBITIONS
You are being invited to put up exhibitions of your school’s projects or activities contributing to
environmental awareness for example herbal gardens, nurseries or recycling etc. These can be
accompanied by pictures as well, so that we can post on our Mukuvisi website. The exhibitions will
be held at the venue. You must supply your own equipment, but if there is need for us to provide
you with a desk and 2 chairs kindly make a request.
