PLAN TRAINING SESSION
As a trainer in EIM NC II, the questions I asked when I started to write my
session plan are: what are the training needs? Trainees characteristics? The learning outcomes? Time? Target group and resources? I got all my answers from the Training needs analysis forms, Pre Training forms or RPL forms / Pre-Assessment checklist, Competency Base Curriculum or Module Of Instruction and Competency Standard/Training Regulations. The components of my session plan are sector, qualification, the unit of competency, learning outcomes, introduction, learning activities (Content, Method, Presentation, Practice, Feedback, Resources, and Time) assessment plan, and trainer reflection. The factors I considered in selecting my training methods are the ff.: content, objective, cost, target audience, time, and resources. I organized my learning events using Robert Gagnes’s Theory, from simple to complex and Hierarchy of Learning. My assessment methods should be in congruence with the assessment plan of the session plan which may obtained using written test to measure underpinning knowledge, Demonstration to measure underpinning skills, Oral Questioning to probe the breadth and depth of underpinning knowledge and skills and portfolio to measure the underpinning knowledge and underpinning skills as attested by external party. I made a good choice because it is in accordance with the Training Regulations and Competency Standard. In preparing my assessment tools, I consider validity in relevant to competency standards, rules of evidence (Current, consistent, valid, recent, authentic), and 4 dimensions of competency (task skills, task management skills, contingency management skills, job/role environment). For cost- effectiveness, assessment activity maximizes the use of resources and assessment tools scope all dimensions of competency given limited resources. It is necessary to prepare a Table of Specifications to decide how many questions are needed to measure learning and if it is sufficient to measure competency. The two adult learning principle that is always in my mind are practical, demands respect, and use of past experience.
