So, before we proceed to our next topic, let us
have a short review of what we have
discussed last meeting.

Class, what was our last topic yesterday? Our last topic is about introduction of
integers.
lOMoARcPSD|16991162

Yes, Jasmine

Exactly.

What do you mean by integer? Integers are a set of positive and

negative number.
Yes, Princess

Very Good.

It feels great that you still remember our

last topic.

B. New Lesson

1) Preparation ( Motivation)
I have here a flashcards. You will just identify
if it is Positive Number or Negative Number.

6. 1 6. Positive Number

2) Presentation

a. Activity
First, we will have an activity called “JUMP
WITH ME “
This is a race game and it consists of
questions about the concept of integers
and comparing whole numbers.

Mechanics:
• You will be group into 2 groups.
• The teacher will ask questions.
• Raise your cardboard if you’re are

done answering.
• Step in the box if you got the
correct answer otherwise remain.
• The one who will step in the finish
line will the winner.

Did you enjoy the activity class?

With the activity that we did, what do you

think is our topic for this morning?

Yes teacher, just like comparing whole

Yes, that’s right, our topic this morning is all numbers, we will identify which is
about comparing and arranging integers. greater or lesser.

b. Analysis
First let’s define what are integers?
Integers is the set of the whole numbers
and their opposites. In other words,
integers are positive and negative.
Integers do not include decimals or
fractions.
Can you give me some examples of
integers?
Yes Princess?

Very good!
Comparing integers
Do you have any idea what does it
mean?
Yes Jeira?

Yes, very good Jeira!

Comparing Integers is just like whole
numbers, we can use inequality symbols to
show the ordering of integers. These re the
greater than (>), less than (<) and equal (=).
Its because -6 is far from zero so -2 is
Class, how do you compare integers? greater teacher.
To compare integers, it really helps to
look at them in order on a number line. As you
move to the left on a number line, the numbers
get smaller if it’s far from zero. As you move to
the right on a number line, the numbers get 6 is greater than 2 teacher.
larger if it’s far from zero. 6 is greater because it’s far from zero
while 2 is closer to zero.

Yes, teacher!
lOMoARcPSD|16991162

-10 is less than 10 teacher!

-10<10

Example: Compare -6 and -2

-6 is less than -2

Why -6 is less than -2?

Yes Krishna?

Yes, that’s right!

How about 6 and 2?
Who can answer?
Yes Jane?
Yes teacher!

Yes, very good!

Do you understand class?

Another example Compare -10 and 10

Yes Jasmin?
Arrange it according to the order of
Correct! numbers if it’s smallest to greatest or
-10 is less than 10 we can already identify greatest to smallest.
which is greater or lesser because of the signs
-10 has negative sign and 10 number itself is
positive.

Remember class that positive numbers are

always larger than negative numbers.
When comparing two negative numbers,
look at the the absolute value of the numbers
to help you. By absolute value, I mean the
distance the number is from 0.

Do you understand class?

Now, let’s move to arranging integers or

ordering integers from smallest to greatest or
largest or vice versa.

How to arrange or order integers?

Do you have an idea?
Yes Jayson?
Ascending means numbers are
organized from smallest to greatest
lOMoARcPSD|16991162

Yes, that’s right Jayson! while descending means greatest to

Sometimes you’ll be given a list of several smallest teacher.
integers and you’ll be to write them in order
from least to greatest or maybe greatest to
least.

To put integers in order, it also can help you

see where they all are on a number line. Then
you’ll want to write them in order from left to
right if you’re asked to put them in ascending
order from least to greatest.

If you’re asked to write them the other way

around in descending order from greatest to
least. You’ll list in order from right to left. Pay
careful attention to which order the question
gives you.

Can anyone give the definition of ascending

and descending?
Yes Jeira?

-7 is less than -4, -4 is less than 0, 0 is

Yes, very good! less than 2.
Ascending order is the one in which the
numbers are organized from the lower value to
the higher value. It is the reverse of
descending order, in which numbers are 4, 2, -1, -5 teacher!
organized from higher to lower values.

Write the numbers -4, 2, -7 and 0 from least

to greatest. 4> 2> -1 > -5

Always remember that smaller numbers are

to left on a number line and larger numbers 4 is greater than 2, which is greater
are to the right. than -1, which is greater than -5.

-7, -4, 0, 2

Another way to write this is to use inequality 10, 6, 5, 0 , -3, -7, -10
signs to indicate that they’re written from least
to greatest.
10>6>5>0>-3>-7>-10
-7 < -4 < 0 < 2
10 is greater than 6 which is greater
You can read this as? than 5, 5 is greater than 0, 0 is greater
than -3 and -3 is greater than -7 which
lOMoARcPSD|16991162

Another example, write the 2, 1, -5 and 4 is greater than -10

from greatest to least.
Can anyone answer this? Yes, teacher!
Yes Armie?

That’s right!
Now use the inequality sign.
Yes Aaron?

Correct! How you read it? Positive numbers are always larger
Yes Danika? than negative numbers and when
comparing two negative numbers, look
Very good! at the absolute value of the numbers to
Last example, arrange the numbers in help you.
descending order 10, -10, 6, -7, -3, 5 0
Yes Christian?
Zero is less than every positive
Good job! integers and greater than every
Use the inequality sign. negative integer and every positive
integer is greater than every negative
How do you read it? integer.

The greater the number the lesser is

its opposite.

Do you understand our lesson class?

Very good!

c. Abstraction
To sum up our discussion what are the
notes that we need to remember in
comparing and arranging integers? 1. >
Yes Jeira? 2. =
3. >
4. <
5. <
6. >
Very good Jeira! 7. <
What else? 8. >
Yes Russel?

Yes that’s right! 1. -45, -16, -9, 7, 33

Anything else? 2. -78, -5, -2,18, 23
3. -56, -19, 28, 32, 44
Yes, Very Good!
lOMoARcPSD|16991162
