Definition of Telemetry
• Telemetry is the automatic recording and transmission of
data from remote or inaccessible sources to an IT system in
a different location for monitoring and analysis.
• Telemetry data may be relayed using radio, infrared,
ultrasonic, GSM, satellite or cable, depending on the
application (telemetry is not only used in software
development, but also in meteorology, intelligence,
medicine, and other fields).
• In the software development world, telemetry can offer
insights on which features end users use most, detection of
bugs and issues, and offering better visibility into
performance without the need to solicit feedback directly
from users.

Telemetry
• Telemetry, highly automated communications
process by which measurements are made and other
data collected at remote or inaccessible points and
transmitted to receiving equipment for monitoring,
display, and recording.
• Originally, the information was sent over wires, but
modern telemetry more commonly uses radio
transmission.
• Basically, the process is the same in either case.
• Among the major applications are monitoring electric-
power plants, gathering meteorological data, and
monitoring manned and unmanned space flights.

Application of Biotelemetry
1. RF transmission for monitoring astronauts in space
2. Patient monitoring where freedom of movement is desirable such
as in obtaining an exercise electro cardiogram
3. Patient monitoring in ambulance
4. Collection of medical data from home or office
5. Research on unrestrained un-anaesthetized animals in their
natural habitat
6. Use of telephone lines for transmission of ECG or other medical
data
7. Special internal techniques such as tracing acidity or pressure
through the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract
8. Isolation of an electrically susceptible patient from power line
operated ECG equipment to protect him from accidental shock.
