teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.
✘ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.
Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it
via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
For this lesson, the students will be teaching each other. The teacher will give the students to choice
of receiving introductory information on the topic via podcast or video and will be given a link that
will take them to their chosen form of information. They will be instructed to listen or view the
information for homework and choose one of the figures mentioned in the podcast or video. Once
they have made their choice, they will research that person/group and create a podcast or video (their
choice) that provides information about that figure. If they chose to create a podcast, they will be
instructed to create a script before recording and if they chose video, they will be instructed to create a
storyboard before recording. Once all podcasts and videos have been created, they will present them
to the class.
As they are being presented to the class, there will be a class discussion for each figure so that all
students can learn about them all.
The teacher will be available for questions, guidance, and support as needed.
The students will be able to work on their video/podcast both at school and at home (if possible) as
they wish as long as they complete by the due date. There will be dedicated time in class for them to
work on it and allowed to move freely around the room for comfort and accessibility. This activity is
allowing the students to become active learners by making the decision on the specific topic/figure
and how they want to present their learning. Their storyboards/scripts will be turned in for review so
the teacher can help guide them if needed.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle
you are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of
Representation, or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
I think the main UDL focus here is Action and Expression. The students are choosing how they want
to show their learning to the class and teacher which allows them to be comfortable with how they
present their learning.
Reflection:
I think this activity would be a fun and engaging task for students to complete because not only are
they creating fun ways to present their learning, they are also not being required to research several

figures at once but instead with focus on one and then they will learn from each other as they present.
I would look forward to seeing what they have created more than anything else.
