University of Otago – Pathway | Te Huarahi

Student IT Connection Information Pack

This document will navigate you through setting up the following: Connecting to University wifi,
Microsoft 365 Student email, Microsoft 365 Teams, Zoom & Student Blackboard.

University Wifi
Due to the variety of devices (Apple, Android, etc) you may need to check the setup guides provided
by the university. They can be found here: https://bit.ly/30Xe2K7

We will provide basic Android and iOS connection info below:

APPLE iOS (iPhone, iPad):

-Go to your settings menu

-Click on the "Wi-Fi" option

-Select UO_WIFI

-Type in your student username and password

If it is your first time connecting to these networks it will ask you to trust a certificate. Click on
Trust at the top right hand corner.

Verify that you are connected to the internet.

ANDROID (Android phones, chromebooks)


Keep in mind that different Android devices may have different interfaces.
-Go to your phone's "Settings"

-Make sure that your Wi-Fi is turned on and go into the "Wi-Fi" settings

-Select the network you want to connect to: UO_WIFI


-If it is your first time connecting to the University Wi-Fi network you will be prompted for some details.
Make sure that the following details are correct:

1. EAP Method: PEAP

2. Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2

3. CA certificate: Unspecified, None or No Certificate

4. Identity: Your University of Otago username

5. Enter Password: Your University of Otago password

-Click the "Connect" button and make sure that you are connected to the Wi-Fi

Microsoft 365
Microsoft 365 for students comes with a variety of applications and
collaborative tools to help you be creative with your studies and
engage with your teachers, students, and friends! This document
assists you to get access to your student email and Microsoft Teams.
Microsoft’s other applications are available to you at a click of a
button, i.e. online cloud & desktop applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc. and 1TB of
personal storage with OneDrive. Student email and Microsoft Teams is available to all students and
is regularly used by teachers to communicate with you directly about class, class materials,
resources, assessments, assignments, quizzes and much, much more so be engaged with these two
applications especially!

How to access Microsoft 365


1. Enter – www.office.com and click the “sign in” button

2. Enter your email address in the same format like this example:
[email protected] and click the “Next” button

3. The following screen will appear requesting you to connect to the University of Otago.
Enter your email and your password (default password is set as your date of birth, using
this format as an example: 01Feb1990)
4. Access to the office.com portal will be enabled, click the “Save” button for future:

5. The portal confirms all the available applications, click on the ‘Outlook’ Application. This will
open your student email.

6. The Student email may (or may not) have emails already sitting in the inbox for your
information. It is good practise to regularly check your email. Head back to the portal and
select the “Teams” Application

The screen below appears => Turn on notifications => then click the ‘Download Now’ button
7. Stay better connected with Teams Desktop Application => Download the app (available for
both Apple, Android, Windows etc.), Open the download icon on the bottom left of the
screen (circled in Yellow)

8. Wait patiently whilst the application downloads and installs

9. The below screen will appear after installation, click ‘Continue’

10. Enter your email address, as an example: [email protected] and click the “Next”
button
11. Teams Application needs to be verified with your University of Otago account. Enter your
email and your password (default password is in the following format as an example:
01Feb1990 and check the box “Remember my credentials”

12. The following pop up screens will appear, just click the ‘Yes’ button, followed by the next screen
and click ‘Done’
Welcome to Teams (the view below is an illustration only)
Zoom

Zoom desktop videoconferencing is available to use


on Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Android, and iOS
operating systems. Zoom provides a high-quality
video, audio, and screen-sharing experience.

Zoom can be used for:


o online meetings
o group messaging
o conferences

Sign in to Zoom

o Open any web browser and go to https://otago.zoom.us/signin


o Enter your University username in the format requested and password.

o Note: All Student accounts must only be prefixed by student\ e.g. student\bonjo923
o Click Sign In
o Enter the unique room code, will look like this => 205-202-202
o Then enter unique password provided to you by the teacher

• Select the ‘Join with Computer Audio” button, you will then enter
the Zoom meeting.
Blackboard Learn
Blackboard provides you with access to many kinds of
resources: readings, slides, video, audio, etc. Some of
these things are created by teaching staff or sometimes
your classmates; other materials are created by others
and provided to you under copyright licences. You can
view/download materials and print anything out for your
own use but, naturally, you may not share, copy, sell or
distribute materials in any way unless they clearly labelled as open access.

How to access Blackboard

1. otago.ac.nz => left hand menu => Current students => select Blackboard

2. The following screen appears, enter your student username following the similar format as
an example: bonjo923 and your default password as an example: format 01Feb1990
