1- INTRODUCTION:
TITLE
MS –-Lightning Protection System Installations
This method statement is to describe all materials and installation requirements for Lighting Protection
Systems
2- SCOPE OF WORKS:
This method statement details the procedure established for the correct and proper execution of lightning
protection system applicable to the Works, to ensure that the installation conforms to the contract
requirements, specifications, and applicable standards.
This document defines the recognized practices to be adopted to ensure that the works at site are in
compliance with the Project Quality Plan, its associated quality procedures, and the approved Project
Inspection Plan. It applies to the supply, laying, erection, interconnection, testing and commissioning of a
complete lightning protection system.
3- Site Engineer:
4- Foreman/Subcontractor:
5- QC Manager:
6- QC Engineers:
7- Safety Team:
a. Ensure that required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn at all times.
b. Ensure all workers / technicians are briefed about hazards associated with their type of work.
c. Highlight hazards associated to each work activity.
d. Close monitoring of workers and worksite for any safety related issues.
4- Interfacing Requirements
Details of the requirements for interfacing are defined in the responsibilities of each party involved.
5- Sequencing
Work shall be performed generally in accordance with the Works Programme (or “Schedule”), which
details the durations and relationships with other types of works.

6- Methodology
a. Pre-Work
a. Check that the design and shop drawings for the lightning protection system are in “approved for
construction” status.
b. Check that access to the work site area for installation is clear, unobstructed and safe. Ensure that
required means of material / personnel transportation, and temporary services / provisions are available.
c. It is to be noted that lightning system components are of a valuable nature and that they should be
properly stored in a secure location as per manufacturer’s recommendations and Project specifications,
and that access to these materials should be controlled in accordance with the Project's Storage Process
procedure.
d. Check that the system components (conductors, earth rods, air terminals, etc) have been ordered,
fabricated, assembled and factory tested and inspected, as applicable, before being delivered to Site.
Upon delivery to Site, system components and associated accessories shall be checked as per the relevant
Project Inspection Plan, to ensure that they are in accordance with the site requirement, the approved
design and material submittals and that they are free from any damage caused during delivery.
e. During installation, structural building members (e.g. I-beams, concrete columns, and walls) shall not be
cut or drilled without prior approval by the civil construction team.
ii. Works
Installation of Lightning Protection System:
a. We use down conductor bare copper cable to connect the roof termination by earthing termination of
lightning protection system
b. (Earthing Pits).
c. The procedures of installations will start after finishing of all civil works at roof.
d. Specify the location of Early Streamer base by using of approved shop drawings.
e. Specify the location of insulated copper conductor routes by using of approved shop drawings.
f. Start to fix the metallic cable clips at the defined raceways by using drill machine.
g. Insert the Early Streamer base to the specified locations and fixing it by using the drill machine.
h. Finalize all the roof lightning termination.
i. Finally, fasten the Early Streamer at its base.
j. For the down conductors, the procedures of installations will start after finishing of all civil works at
facades.
k. Define the location of the down conductor by using of approved shop drawings.
l. Install the test link at height level as detailed at the drawing starting.
m. Excavate the rote from the location of the down conductor till the lightning Earthing
n. For the lightning outdoor Earthing termination, the procedures of installations will start before finishing
of the civil works at site.
o. Specify the location of all pits by using of approved shop drawings.
p. Install the earthing rods into soil by using the hammer to the required depth (which indicated at drawing).
q. Excavation depth: around 50 cm from area finishing level.
r. Specify the location of cables routes by using of approved shop drawings.
s. Excavate the cables routes according to the approved drawing to up to level -50cm by using the
excavation tools.
t. After excavation completion, lay the cables at the excavations.
u. Start fastening for rod to cable clamp as in drawing.
v. Define the location of the cable to cable py using the bimetallic connectors at the cable raceways

iv. The responsible engineer shall then inspect the complete system to verify adequate and proper system
installation, and order any rectifications required.
a. After installation and until commissioning activities start, any part of the lightning protection system that is
likely to collect dust or sustain damage from subsequent construction activities shall be adequately
protected using dust covers or any other appropriate protective means.
b.After installation, tests on the lightning system shall be performed as per Project Inspection Plan, including
system to earth resistance measurement to ensure the proper installation. Unless otherwise specified,
c. The foreman / lightning Subcontractor shall coordinate with other construction trades to ensure that no part
of the installed system is damaged, including air terminals, down conductors and exothermic connection
points.
d.Ensure that any non-terminated pigtails extending out of concrete foundations / slabs are adequately
protected from physical damage using appropriate means, for example, by sliding a piece of PVC conduit
over the pigtail.
