Design of a One Lane Beam - Slab Bridge

Material properties:
- Concrete grade C30
- Steel reinforcement grade 460
- Covers: Slab -30mm, beams - 40mm, abutments - 50mm, foundations - 50mm

Weight of Materials :
- Density of concrete 24 kN/m3
- Density of surfacing course 20 kN/m3
- Density of soil 18 kN/m3, Load bearing Capacity of soil = 200 kN/m2

Live Loads
- HB units = 25, Maximum temperature differences = 160C

Span and other dimensions


- The effective span is 18.00 m, thickness of abutment = 1.0m, height of abutment from
the top surface of the base to the bearing surface = 5.500 m, width of footing = 4.20m,
thickness of footing = 900 mm, heel length = 1.500 m, toe length = 1.70m.

Note: Use other design DATA from BS 5400.

Tasks
- Design the deck slab, beams, abutments, foundations and elastomeric bearing.
- Prepare the structural drawings of your designed bridge.
