My family
My name's Luis. I live with
my wife, Mariluz, and our two
children in Madrid, but | was
born in Ronda in the south of
Spain. My parents stil live there.
They don’t visit us very often
because they don't like big cities.
‘We visit them two or three times
a year ~ at New Year and in the
summer - and when there’s a big
family celebration like a wedding
or a special birthday.
I've got a lot of aunts and uncles and cousins there, too, so
it's good fun. My grandfather - that’s my mother's father ~ is
still alive, He's eighty-two and he lives with one of my aunts,
My other grandparents are dead now.
I've got a brother and a sister. My sister lives in Canada with
her husband. I don't see her very often, but we send emails
and she phones me, too. They've got one child ~a litle girl

Verb Tens
Simple Present Tense
Look at these sentences from the reading:
1 Live with my uncle.
2 Lam very shy.
3 He is a happy guy.
4 I worry a lot
All of the sentences above contain verbs that tell about things that are
usually, generally, or always true. They are not only happening now. These
verbs are in the simple present tense. We often see them in sentences that
also have frequency words. These are words that tell how often an action
happens. Examples of frequency words are always, usually, often, sometimes,
seldom, and never.

The simple present tense is also used to describe feelings or thinking:

Simple present tense verbs have a special form. Many times verbs in the
simple present tense have no endings:

However, sometimes simple present tense verbs end with -s. IF the subject
of the sentence can be he or she or it, simple present tense verbs end with -s. Look
at these examples:

My name is Sebastiano Colén. I came to this country about eight years ago. I
live with my uncle on Springfield Avenue. I have a job in my uncle’s store. His
store is in our neighborhood, a few blocks from his house. I spend most of my
time with my uncle and my cousins.
My uncle is a good man. He is quiet and serious. He works every day in his
store. My uncle is very popular in our neighborhood. Everyone says that he is
very helpful and generous. He is also a calm person. He takes care of me, and he
shares everything with me. He says I am like his son.
Iam very shy, and this has a big effect on my life. am very quiet, and it is
not easy for me to meet new people. I do not have many new friends in the
United States. I have some friends at my job, but I don’t see them outside of
work. After work I just like to go home and read or listen to music. At home weusualy speak our language. I feel a ltele embarrassed because I have been in
this country for along time, but my English is not very good. Part of the reason.
