Conjunctions

Lesson : Conjunctions
- are used to join words, phrases or clauses in a sentence.
1. and – used to join two similar things or ideas.
Example : Yvonne can swim and dance well.
I visited a gallery and bought a painting.
2. because – used to express the reason.
Example : Darren is in pain because he fell down.
3. or – used to show there is a choice.
Example : Is that a butterfly or a moth ?
You can either eat bread or biscuits.
You must hurry or you will miss the bus.
4. but – used to join two contrasting things or ideas.
Example : A snake can glide but it cannot walk.
5. so – used to express the result.
Example : Andy played basketball in the rain yesterday so he is sick now.
