The purpose of this document is to lay down the systematic procedures for the various activities
required in the hard landscape works as sub grade preparation, backfilling works, kerb stone laying &
Interlock paving etc. Soft Landscaping work the plantation of trees, seasonal flowers, shrubs and
transportation and handling of plants including offloading and loading of big trees by lifting equipment,
plantation, sweet soil filling etc. to ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with the approved
shop drawings & contract specification.
2.0 Scope:
This method statement covers hard landscape works in walkways & vehicle crossing areas etc. It
generally encompasses the following:
➢ Backfilling works
➢ Kerbstone Laying
➢ Timber Laying
Soft landscape works includes of plantation works, excavation, sweet soil filling, storage, planting, etc as
per project specification, drawing approval & contract documents.

4.0 Responsibilities:
1. Overall responsible & full authority of all activities at the project site.
1. Ensure all the project key requirements are identified & fulfilled in method statement.
2. Revise the method statement whenever essential during the entire duration of project.
5. Perform the test as mentioned in the approved ITP and relevant records should be maintained.
1. Ensure Risk involved in the activity is assessment & relevant control measures are put in place.
2. Ensure & monitor the adequate safety requirements are fulfilled during all stages of work.

7.1 General:
1. Relevant personal protective equipment should be provided and utilized by the workforce.
2. Appropriate Safety guidelines must be adhered during all stages of construction activity.
1. Required Permit to Work, if any shall be arranged prior to start of the activity.
2. The relevant permissions / clearances are to be obtained from the authority, prior to
commencement of the activity.
3. Obtain MEP clearance in advance and ensure all sleeves to be done prior to starting and proper
termination to be done.
1. Debris shall be removed from the site to Client/Consultant approved dumping area
3. Sub grade / formation level shall be levelled and compacted with natural soil. Soil CBR shall be
as per the contract requirement.
4. Field density test shall be conducted and minimum density as per project documents shall be
achieved.
1. Prior to the commencement of the work confirm and establish all reference points and levels by
the surveyor.
2. Prepare sub grade for the installation of the interlocking blocks. Any soft soils shall be removed
so that it will not create unstable foundation.
3. Paving units shall be executed to the shapes, dimensions, and colors as shown on the drawings
and in accordance with Municipality specifications and standards.
4. Sub base is prepared by compacted granular material / crushed hard rock or quarry waste (no
chalk) passing a 75 mm BS sieve with a minimum thickness 200 mm sub‐base for roads and
150 mm for sidewalk
5. 30 mm thick mortar with waterproofing and expansion joint shall be provided as per the drawing
specification with 1000 gm polythene sheet as applicable
7. Do not allow traffic on installed pavers until sand has been vibrated into joints.
8. Remove and replace unit pavers that are loose, chipped, broken, stained or otherwise damaged
or that do not match adjoining units as intended.
10. The laying pattern of the stone shall be as per the approved drawing pattern.
11. At the end of each day of work, remove from the site rubbish and debris resulting from this work.
1. Excavate the area for the gravel and pebble laying area. Setting out the area as per the
approved shop drawing.
2. Sub grade level should be cleaned from debris, leveled, and compacted prior to the laying of
gravel and pebbles.
3. Required waterproofing shall be done to the surface and a layer of 320 G woven Geotextile
membrane shall be layed.
Laying of Kerbstone:
1. Prior to the commencement of the work confirm and establish all reference points and levels by
the surveyor.
2. The approved kerbstones are to be made accessible near the specified work area.
3. The design, pattern, levels, etc. shall match approved contract or shop drawing. Aggregate base
course layer shall be laid, required material test shall be conducted as per approved Inspection
Test Plan. Waterproofing shall be done as per the project requirement
4. Surveyor is to check and clearly mark all the required levels, alignment, set outline where the
Kerbstones is to be installed according to the drawing.
6. 30 mm thick mortar bed with waterproofing and expansion joint shall be provided as per the
drawing specification.
7. Kerbstone’s joints are to be fixed side‐by‐side and touching one another. Joints to be
pointed/flushed with cement‐sand mortar bed. The laying pattern of the stone shall be as per the
approved drawing pattern.
8. Haunching is done on the paving face vertical down to the level of the underside of the levelling
course
9. Curing is to be achieved for joints and mortar bed with 2 days of spraying water.
10. At all rounded corners, the Kerbstone is to be cut into a smaller size to meet the required
11. The line, alignment and level of Kerbstone are to be checked periodically throughout the
installation to ensure that it complies with the drawing and site requirements.
1. Prior to any concrete testing client / consultant shall be notified about the testing location, Date,
time & type of testing.
3. Work Inspection Requests (WIR) shall be raised to the Client/Consultant for the following stages
of work as per ITP.
4. Relevant test report shall be maintained & copy shall be forwarded to the client / consultant.
