1. (-4) - (+2) = -6
When negative and positive are written next to
each other they become negative.
-4 - 2 = -6 (we add them, and the answer will be negative.)

2. (-5) - (+12) = -17

-5 -12 = -17

3. (-10) + (-10) = -20

-10 -10 = -20

4. (+6) - (+9) = -3

+6 -9 = -3 (we subtract and we keep the sign of the bigger


number.)
