HARRAH: Thank you, Matalava Kids. You

may now be seated. Now, let's take a moment
to understand why we are gathered here
tonight. Flores de Mayo, or Flowers of May, is
a traditional Filipino festival celebrated
throughout the month of May.

IAN: The tradition started in 1865 when it was

introduced by the Spanish friars. It is a
celebration in honor of the Blessed Virgin
Mary, symbolizing the beauty and abundance
of nature and the community’s devotion to
Mary.

HARRAH: One of the highlights of Flores de

Mayo is the Santacruzan, a colorful procession
representing the search for the True Cross by
Queen Helena and her son, Constantine the
Great. It features beautiful sagalas and their
escorts, parading in intricate and elegant
gowns.

IAN: Tonight, we will not only witness this

grandeur but also experience the essence of
community spirit, faith, and cultural heritage
through various performances and activities.

HARRAH: So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the

evening as we celebrate Flores de Mayo!
