1. What is E-commerce ?

(1) E-commerce refers to the occurrence of commerce activities online or electronically.

(2) E-commerce is buying or selling of goods or services and making payments over
networks like internet.

2. What is Privacy ? How is it related to E-commerce ?

(1) Privacy is the protection of personal information given online while carrying out
online activity or transaction.

(2) In e-commerce it is related to a company’s policies on the use of user data. ,

(3) Both buyer and seller must provide correct information to each other regarding
the transaction.

3. How to safeguard user privacy ?

(1) The merchant or seller must clearly state how the user data will be used, in terms and
conditions of website.

(2) The merchant or seller must ensure the user has gone through the terms and
conditions given on the website before making the transaction.

(3) The merchant must assure the user about data safety by implementing security
measures such https protocol, so that data is safe from hackers.

(4) The user must go through the terms and conditions mentioned on the website before
providing any sensitive information and check the https protocol and padlock.
4. What is online fraud ? What are forms of fraud ?

1. Fraud committed using the Internet is called Online Fraud its forms are -

(a) Non-delivered goods.

(b) Non-existent companies.

(c) Stealing information.

(d) Fraudulent payments.

(e) Identity thefts – Stealing online identity like social media handle, email id and
posting on their behalf.

(f) Credit card fraud.

5. What are the measures to stop Online fraud ?

1. A monitoring official body that ensures the sanctity of E-commerce company and
delivery of goods.

2. Strong security mechanism by e-commerce site and payment gateways to prevent


stealing of crucial information.

3. Official guidelines and safeguards on the selling of users’ data to third parties.

6. What is Secure data transmission ?

1. Secure data transmission means applying technical safeguards for safe data travel to
its target without any compromise or eavesdrop.

2. It is done by following techniques –

(a) SSL secure data transmission.


(b) Data encryption.
(c) Use safe protocols.
(d) Allowing valid data users by authentication and authorization.
7. What are Intellectual Property Rights ? Why is it necessary to protect them ?

1. Intellectual Property Rights are the rights of the owner of information to decide how
much information is to be exchanged, shared or distributed.

2. It also allows the owner to decide the price for exchanging or distributing.

3. It is necessary to protect because –

(a) It encourages individuals and businesses to create new software and improve
existing ones.

(b) It ensures new technologies are widely distributed.

(c) It promotes investment in national economy.

8. What is Plagiarism ?

1. Plagiarism is stealing someone’s intellectual work and representing it as your work


without disclosing the source of information. It is an offence as per law for which is
civil and criminal case may be done. E.g.

(a) Using some author’s work without giving credit to the author.
(b) Using some music composer’s composition without giving credit.
(c) Giving incorrect source of information.
9. What is the Narmada Bachao Andolan ?

1. Narmada Bachao Andolan or Save Narmada Movement is a NGO which worked


against the Sardar Sarovar Dam being built across the Narmada River in Gujarat.
2. It mobilized tribal people, farmers, environmentalists and human rights activists
3. Its main area of focus was environmental issues, submerging trees under the dam
water.
4. It also focused to enable poor citizens, rehabilitation of displaced people.
