Chapter 1
PROJECT BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
Introduction
As time went by, together with the lifestyle of Filipinos, ukay-ukay became
numerous anywhere in the country. In search of value for money, many Filipino turn to
ukay-ukay stores or shift shops for quality clothing at very affordable prices (Ramirez,
2010).
What often comes into the minds of the Filipino people when we hear the term
“UK”? It is ukay-ukay right? The term “ukay-ukay” was derived from the Visayan term
“halukay” which means the act of digging. Ukay-ukay shopping is like treasure hunting,
but instead of looking for a treasure, you are literally digging from the piles of clothes
which are mostly vintage and of high value. The ukay shopping phenomena all started
in Baguio. Ukay stores sprouted like mushrooms which later became one of the must-visit
places in Baguio.
According to hearsay, it’s origin started way back in the 80s. Due to the frequency
of calamities happening in our country, a certain humanitarian group called the Salvation
Army used to ship second-hand garments and other goods as forms of help to the filipino
victims. As the goods piled up, business-minded people decided to buy them at a very
low cost and sell them to the public. Thus, ukay-ukay business was born.
The most popular destinations for ukay-ukay are in Baguio, Cebu, Cubao, Anonas,
Bluementrit, Espana, Mandaluyong, Sta. Mesa and Pasig.

Femme Fatale PH Clothing Shop is a business that offers thrifted fashion clothes
wherein revenue is derived from customers who buy the product offered. The proposed
business will offer ready-to-wear clothing that satisfies the needs and wants of the
customers. It is also based on the registered name prescribed by the Department of Trade
and Industry with certificate as we sell online for proof of legitimacy.

The proposed business will be located at the second floor of this building in
General Luna St., Corner, Miguel Cristi, Guitnang Bayan 1, San Mateo, Rizal. The
proponents chose this site because it's along the highway, near the area of five
school/university as seen below, it’s also easy to find since it’s a corner street. Figure 1
shows the vicinity map of the proposed business.

There are four proponents. Each proponent will be contributing equal share in the
initial capital and the profit while the losses will also be divided equally.

classy and trendy stuffs that will satisfy the fashion desire of our every customer.”

“Our mission is to sell fashionable thrifted clothes and variety of branded apparel
that offers a high-quality product at affordable prices. Bring customer to their highest level
of sense in fashion and provide their satisfaction. Being stay ahead in fashion trends and
to achieve their choice of fashion are our main goal to customers.”
“Living in style, Saving the planet.” Since we are a social enterprise, we are
committed to putting the interest of people and the planet. That being said, we came up
with a product that is made from second-hand clothes to minimize the waste and its
environmental impact. So instead of selling the usual clothes, we came up with an
alternative that is beneficial not only to our financial gain but to humans and our planet as
well.
Our business offers affordable and comfortable clothes that are suitable for any
occasion. We guarantee our customers to provide ready-to-wear clothes that respond to
current fashion trends and also caters fashion blouse, dress, t-shirts, shorts, etc. All of
these products provide satisfaction to customers who want to purchase these items in a
very affordable price.
Our short-term goal for the business is committed to achieve affordable and good
quality clothing. The proponents plan to execute a broader marketing strategy to build
name and have better relationship with the target customers through Shopee and
Facebook and other social media platforms in order to reach wider range of possible
customers.
Our objective for the long run is a green business that wants to improve and
promote positive effects on the global or local environment, community, society, and
economy. Alongside with other thrift shop business’s long-term goal is to help spread
personal and public awareness in our Environmental health and protection, including the
benefit of reducing, recycling, and re-using of Ukay-Ukay Clothes that would otherwise
be sent to landfill sites.
Target Market
The target market covered by this business are the students, teachers, passerby.
The area is accessible for the possible customer that would like to purchase the items
and products of the company. It is a place that is reachable also to commuters that have
interest in acquiring their items and the group has decided to locate our thrift shop in this
place to give convenient services for our possible customers and to satisfy them with our
items and products.
Economic and Industrial Policies Supporting the Project
The main aspect in putting up a business is also the contribution of the proposed
business to the economy. The proposed business provides contribution to the Philippine
economy by sustaining government projects and programs through taxes, business
licenses, and permits that are paid to the collecting sector. It also reduces unemployment
rate by providing employment opportunities to the people who are willing to work. Hence,
the proposed business can somehow make significant contributions to the economy.
The government may a find new source of revenue once the importation of “ukay-
ukay” or second-hand apparel becomes legal in the country. This was a point made by
neophyte Senator Raffy Tulfo during a hearing of the Senate Committee on Ways and
Means on Tuesday when he proposed the legalization of the importation of “ukay-ukay,”
citing the “inefficiency” of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to prevent the entry of such
imports. “Since the Bureau of Customs cannot control the entry of ‘ukay-ukay,’ maybe we
have to come up with a system na, I don’t know, legalize ‘ukay-ukay,’” Tulfo said. “If you
can’t really stop it, talk to our lawmakers to repeal the law, the policy to make the
importation of ‘ukay-ukay’ in the country legal, and make them [the importers and
resellers] pay the right taxes.”
Under Republic Act (RA) No. 4653, the commercial importation of used clothing
and rags is prohibited due to health-risk concerns. Despite the existing law, Tulfo said
much of the public is not aware of it, hence, many establishments are selling these illegal
products. For its part, the BOC said that it had already “intensified” its efforts against the
smuggling of “ukay-ukay.”
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, who chairs the Ways and Means panel, supported
Tulfo’s proposal. “It’s about time to revisit the law. Like I said, we cannot fault the retailers
for selling ‘ukay-ukay,’ because I don’t think they know it is illegal,” he said. “In fact, many
of the retailers pay business permits but they sell ‘ukay-ukay.’ I don’t think they are aware
that those being sold are illegal under RA 4653.” Gatchalian, who admitted he himself
was not aware of the existing law, said that local government units must be informed
about the provisions of RA 4653. “I don’t know that ‘ukay-ukay’ is prohibited. In front of
City Hall, there were ‘ukay’ukay,” he said. “The local government units might not be
informed that these types of operations are not within the bounds of law.”

MANAGEMENT FEASIBILITY
Introduction
The organizational chart is a graphical formation that displays the important details
in the organizational structure including the major functions and their respective
relationships among positions according to authority and responsibility. This refers to the
diagram showing the key functions of the line and staff organizational structure.
General Manager

Sales Manager (Inventory)
Job Description:
• Oversees the workflow of the business environment.
• Plans for the production schedule and coordinates with the supplier.
• Ensures that each job role performs such primary responsibilities and duties, in the
course of accomplishing with the firm's objectives.
• Monitors employee productivity and provides constructive feedback and coaching.
• Ensures adherence to legal and company policies and procedures and undertake
disciplinary actions if the need arises.
• Passes information to general manager either about the reward and promotion of
employees based on performance or concerns in hiring and firing employees.
Job Specification:
• Male or Female.
• Must be 21 years old and above.
• Possesses bachelor's degree or college level in business administration.
• Must have at least two years of work experience in similar or related field.
• Must have an excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with company policies and legal guidelines of the related field.
• Proper knowledge in logistical details focusing on efficiency and he/she can derive
solutions out of analyses.

Sales Assistant and Cashier
Job Description:
• Maintains relationships with clients by providing support, information, and
guidance.
• Sells products by establishing contact and develops relationships with prospects
and recommending solutions.
• Prepares reports and proposals by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing
information.
• Participates in team effort by accomplishing related results.
• Benchmarks a pleasing personality and state-of-the-art practices.
• Listens to customer requirements and presents relevant information appropriately.
• Identifies business opportunities by identifying prospects and evaluating their
position in the industry.
Job Specification:
• Male or Female.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Possesses bachelor’s degree in business administration or any other degree
subject is acceptable particularly relevant to sales.
• Must have relevant experience gained in any commercial area involving contact
with customers or the general public.
• Knowledgeable in the aspects of information technology, market trends and
commercial environment.
Employee Benefits
The enterprise will have 4 employees; 1 General Manager with a minimum wage
of P600 daily and Sales Inventory of P550. The wage of Sales Assistant and Cashier is
based on the provincial rate with P500/day since our location is also located in the
Province of Rizal.
Holiday Pay
The employees will have bonus during the special holiday. Legal and special
holiday are practiced here in the Philippines and so the enterprise will have holidays.
Business Policies
Vacation Leave
A form of vacation leave must be processed and filled up by the employees and
be submitted to the management personally.
Absences
The employees will be monitored regularly especially their absences during their
duty. Employees that have consecutive 5 absences or more a month will be regarded as
Absence without Leave (AWOL).
Tardiness
Each employee must observe his or her tardiness. Certain deductions will be given
for every minute of late an employee will incur base on pro-rata. Employees who are late
for 30 minutes without reasonable excuse will be considered absent.
Pay Day
An employee will receive its payment twice a month; every 5th day and 20th day
of the month.
Cleanliness
All employees must observe cleanliness at all times in the workplace. Each
employee must always clean their area before going home.
Chapter 3
ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY
Introduction
The purpose of this chapter is to discover the current demand and supply of the
service, to forecast the demand and supply, to find where to put its competitive position
in the industry, to study the target market and to design marketing activities for the
business.
Demand Analysis
Our target market was people in the province of Rizal, specifically people in San
Mateo because, according to CMCI, San Mateo ranks number 4 as one of the Top 1st
Class Municipalities in the Philippines. People between 18 and 60 are our target market
in San Mateo. It's because people in that age group are supporting the environmental
awareness trend.
One in every three women, according to the ThredUp report, shopped secondhand
last year. In 2017, 44 million women bought used goods, up from 35 million the year
before. The market is rapidly expanding, leaving more room than ever before in people's
wallets and closets. (ThredUp, 2020).
ThredUp discovered that the millennial generation (23-38 yrs. old) is not only
known for its fashion waste but also its environmentally conscious habits. According to
the study, 77% of millennials want to buy from environmentally conscious brands. In
comparison to previous generations, they are also more likely to switch to thrifting for
environmental reasons.

Three acronyms describe the sector in which the company operates: TAM, SAM,
and SOM. The overall consumer demand for a good or service is referred to as TAM
(Total Addressable Market), in which the TAM of the company is the total population in
the Philippines. The target market is the second-largest market. SAM (Serviceable
Addressable Market) refers to the portion of the overall addressable market than an
organization can cover within a given territory. The SAM of the company is the total
population in the Region IV-A. Lastly, the SOM (Serviceable Obtainable Market) targets
a subset of SAM that you can realistically reach during the business's first few years. The
SOM of the company is in San Mateo, Rizal.
Supply Analysis
The projected supply to be sold by the enterprise is 26,640 units in one year. There
are existing business enterprises like boutique, stalls and thrift shops residing in San
Mateo, Rizal. The proponents of the business enterprise considered all the existing
enterprises which sell the same kind of clothes which is ukay-ukay. The competitors of
the business are considered valuable because they pose a threat to the enterprise. It will
influence the decisions on operations capacity and marketing strategies of the enterprise.
Sales Forecast
Table 1 shows the sales revenue for the Year 1 of "femmefatale.clo" thrift shop
business. The data stated are based on the computation from the total number of pieces
purchased per year. Supply capacity is multiplied by selling price to get the total sales.
The total sales of the items are ₱2,112,000.

Marketing Strategy
The proposed business will be using the four marketing programs to be able to
establish itself in the market and to be easily known by the public. With these marketing
programs, the enterprise aims to become popular and successful in the industry. Below
are the strategies of femmefatale.clo:
I. Product
a. The business will offer fashionable, affordable and ready to wear (quality)
product to customers.
b. The customers can choose whatever style of clothing they want considering all
the items are different or unique.
II. Price
a. The thrifted clothes offered by the enterprise will be PHP50-110.00 based on
the type of clothing which is very affordable since it's already washed, some of them have
brands too. The price is inclusive of all the cost incurred in the process of making it good
as new and the acceptance profit as well.
III. Place
The enterprise will be located at General Luna St., Corner, Miguel Cristi, Guitnang
Bayan 1, San Mateo, Rizal. The location will result to easy access since it is located along
the highway. It is convenient and accessible for the customers to go to in this area and
many people will pass through on the location of the business area and it has a lot of
prospect customers.

The answer for a successful and prosperous business will take a lot of
considerations including the business enterprise's location, accessibility of supplies and
most importantly its marketing strategies since you can't sell when you can't tell. These
are the things which are essential factors for the determination of target market for which
you can offer products to. The thrift shop enterprise aims to offer customers a quality and
affordable ukay clothes in San Mateo, Rizal.
Introduction
This aspect pertains to the over-all description, design and program of the
business proposal. It consists the location, layout and structural design, equipment, tools,
furniture and fixture, sales and services, business operations, recording of business
transactions and inventory management.
Physical Location
The physical layout and structural design of our site and building is suitable for the
sanitizing and delivery process of the products. Placement of the furniture and fixtures
and equipment are strategically placed.
The display area was designed to be the biggest area for a large merchandising
space where clothing and layer rack are not too close to each other and buyers can
choose products without minding individual spaces. The entryway to the washing/laundry
room and packaging/storage room are big enough and is just sliding door so workers can
easily go in and out of the rooms. The washing area are for preparing the clothes next to
the storage area which makes it easy for the delivery process. There is also a counter
where the buyers pay their products to the cashier. Finally, a comfort room, just the right
size for one person whenever there are hygienic/fitting needs.

Production Schedule
This is the overall description of the business itself. It is important to have clear
and well-defined business operation because this specifies how the business works. This
is the life of the business.
On everyday operation, the entity is opened to the public for making transactions
from 11AM to 7PM. The general manager is in-charge in monitoring day-to-day sales and
implementing the rules and regulations of the shop and make proper and consistent
decisions. She is also responsible for keeping the continuous improvement of the quality
of the products. The bookkeeper or sales inventory records the transactions and prepares
payroll and financial statement. He takes order from customers and disbursement and in-
flows of cash.
Raw materials are supplied directly from the owner of ukay-ukay supplier in Taytay,
Rizal. The other essential materials are supplied by the wholesaler shops in San Mateo,
Rizal or online shopping. The mode of payment of materials may either be cash or credit.
The sales assistant monitors the daily performance, responsible for observing buyers,
and inspects the quality of the clothes. The inspection starts at 3:00PM.
Inventory Schedule
We will be having our own inventory system by categorizing our products and
recording them with the following books of accounts duly stamped by the Bureau of
Internal Revenue; Cash Receipts Journal, Cash Disbursement Journal, Sales Journal,
Purchases Journal, Petty Cash Book and General Journal.
Cash sales and collections are proofed by official receipts which serve as basis of
recording in the cash receipts journal. Expenses and disbursement are paid through cash
fund and properly recorded in any of the special journal and is recorded in the general
journal.
The General Manager is responsible for signing checks. All disbursement is made
by check except for expenses below 3000 pesos. The journals are called as original entry.
Entries in the different journals are posted in the book of final entry known as the general
journal.
Product Delivery
The products to be shipped will be at the Storage Room. Since the business is
simply beginning, the capacity of the items, packaging and so forth will be at the actual
store as it were. It is likewise better if the stocks are as of now in the store. Delivery
Processes. Delivery will be through any dispatch that the buyer prefers. The usual courier
for pick-up is J&T and Lalamove for same day delivery (nearby customers). We will also
be having a free delivery service for nearby areas (inside our subdivision).
Manpower Requirement
There needs to be at least two permanent staff on the premises at all times. This
means employing at least three full-time staff to cover the weekly hours of operation,
vacations and sick leave. As a minimum, a total of three people should be present at any
time: one at the packaging/storage area and two for the sorting, pricing and putting
inventory out onto the sales floor. Much of this work can be done by training the staff.
Supervision and training the fulltime staff would generally be done by the
owner/manager. Therefore, the manager as well as three competent individuals who
would be able to provide oversight for all activities.

Introduction
The financial study represents the concrete results of the company's strategy and
structure to gain information about the current and future financial health of an enterprise.
This chapter show in specified terms whether the project will be profitable even with
existing competition. This will be shown in the project preparation of statements and
schedules, mode of financing needed, manner and period of repaying creditors and other
financial consideration that is important to the success of the project.

The financial ratios that shall be used in analyzing the financial statements of the
proposed business are liquidity and profitability ratios.
Working capital is the amount of current asset less current liabilities. A company
needs adequate working capital to meet current debts, to carry sufficient inventories, and
to take advantage of cash discount. A company that runs low on working is likely to meet
current obligation or to continue operating.
Liquidity refers to the ability of the business to pay its obligation in cash as they
mature. Among the liquidity ratios that shall be used are the current ratio and quick ratio.
This shows the financial ratio which measures the liquidity and profitability of the
proposed business.
Current ratio reflects the liquidity of the business. It is computed by dividing the
current assets by the current liabilities. It means that it has the capacity to pay its current
obligations. The current ratio for the year is 1.52.
The net income ratios refer to a company ability to generate an adequate return
on investment capital. The net income ratio for the year is 0.01.
The equity ratios reflect the proportion of the total asset that is financed by the
stockholders. The equity ratio for the year is 60%.

profits and how they could accumulate wealth, but business operation should also be
considered because it could impact their employees, customers, their community as a
whole, the environment, as well as the government in terms of tax.
The main objective of this study is to give the key people who runs the business
awareness on the importance of economic activities which could necessarily affect the
way they run the business enterprise, the manner they could manage all employees, and
the way they could provide their customers better service.
Tax is very important for the government especially in public spending and it is a
vital part for the economic growth and stability of our economy as a whole. Some business
does not pay their taxes which is an illegal act for every business. Femmefatale.clo will
ensure that the fees, licenses and taxes will be properly registered and paid to guarantee
that the business can operate safely and legally and to avoid the disruptions of the
business due from its illegal operations and the non-payment of taxes.
Contribution to the society
Listed below are the legal requirements an enterprise needs to obtain before
operating a business. It is very important to secure these essential legal requirements.
The consequences of operating a business without the said legal requirements range
from the closure of business to the imposition of monetary fines, and finally, to
imprisonment.
The first step is to register the business with the appropriate government agency
depending on the type of business organization one wants to establish. In a partnership,
the losses and profits are distributed in accordance with the agreement of the partners. If
only the share of each partner in the profits has been agreed upon, the share of each in
the losses shall be in the same proportion. As for the profits, the industrial partner shall
receive such profits as may be just and equitable under the circumstances. If the industrial
partner contributed capital, he shall also receive a share in the profits in proportion to his
capital.
B. Obtain a Mayor’s or Business Permit
All businesses are required to secure a mayor’s permit or business permit from the
local government of the city or municipality where the business is located. Different cities
and municipalities have different registration procedures and requirements. The following
are the general requirements for securing a permit for a new business:

C. Register with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)
All businesses have to register with the BIR before the commencement of
operation for taxation purposes. The registration process involves obtaining and
registering a tax identification number (TIN), obtaining BIR-registered official receipts and
invoices, registering the business’s books of accounts, and paying the applicable fees.
The registration must be done at the Revenue District Office (RDO) of the BIR, which
covers the registered address of the business.
D. Register with the Social Security System (SSS)
All businesses that have employees must be registered with the SSS. The
registered employer will be assigned an employer number, which will be used as a
reference for the remittance of monthly contributions, composed of the employee’s
contribution and the employer’s share. SSS coverage is compulsory for all employees,
not over sixty years of age, and their employers. An employer is any person who carries
on in the Philippines any trade, business, industry, undertaking, or activity of any kind and
uses the services of another person who is under his or its orders as regards the
employment. Meanwhile, an employee is any person who performs services for an
employer in which either mental or physical efforts or both are used and who receives
compensation for such services, where there is an employer-employee relationship. The
SSS provides replacement income for employees in times of disability, sickness,
maternity, and old age. It also assists death and funeral expenses.
All employers are required to register themselves and their employees with
PhilHealth, the government healthcare system. Upon registration, an employer shall be
issued an employer number. Under the PhilHealth system, the monthly contribution is
divided equally between the employer and the employee. It is deducted and withheld
automatically by the employer from the employee’s salary then remitted to PhilHealth.
All employees who are or ought to be covered by the SSS are also covered by
mandatory membership in the Pag-IBIG Fund. The Pag-IBIG Fund provides various types
of housing loans to employees. Members make their contributions to the Pag-IBIG Fund
through salary deduction. The employer has the responsibility to deduct the contribution
from the employee’s salary. Together with the employer’s share of the contribution, the
employee contribution is remitted to the Pag-IBIG Fund every month.
