Human activity is changing the Earth’s climate in ways “unprecedented” in thousands or

world’s leading authority on climate science.
The comprehensive assessment of climate science published on Monday, the sixth such

hundreds of experts and peer-review studies. It represents the world’s full knowledge to date of

the correct answer to each of the questions from 31 to 35.
Last year, Usain Bolt stunned athletics fans when he hacked 0.11 seconds off his previous
world record for the 100-metre sprint. But what’s the ultimate human speed limit?
Intrigued by this question, Mark Denny at Stanford University, California, decided to work
out how fast a human could possibly sprint 100 metres. He examined previous records for
various athletics competitions – and greyhound and horse races for good measure – since the
1920s, and found that performances in many events followed a similar pattern, improving
steadily until they reached a plateau. Horses in the Kentucky Derby, for example, appeared to

Tài liệu KYS Education is the Key to Your Success 5

approach their speed limit in 1949. Since then any improvements have become minimal and
increasingly rare.
Human athletes, too, seem to follow this pattern. Timings for the women’s 100 metres
approached a plateau in 1977. Male sprinters are still improving, but having constructed a
model based on other events, Denny says they too seem on the verge of topping out. He
predicts an absolute limit of 9.48 seconds for the 100 metres, just 0.1 seconds under Bolt’s
current record. “If he keeps on course he will soon come close to the absolute limit,” says
Denny.
What gives rise to this human speed limit? Denny reckons it’s as simple as the athlete’s
power-to-weight ratio. Beyond a certain point, the benefits of stronger muscles and longer limbs
will be offset by the increased energy required to shift the greater load.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate
the correct answer to each of the questions from 36 to 42.
People collaborate when they work together to accomplish a task. Collaboration among
early humans helped to ensure their survival. They relied on collaboration in order to find food
and raise children [ rise]. In the contemporary world, it is acknowledged that collaboration is a
critical characteristic of organizational settings such as businesses – most organizational
behaviour experts agree, for example, that collaboration increases productivity.
Workplace failures can happen when collaboration and team skills are absent. Your
business can end up as an incohesive collection of competing silos, departments, and

individuals. When people work together, they can use each other’s knowledge to advance new
ideas and rectify intricate problems.
In recent years, collaboration has been greatly enhanced by the advent of the Internet. In
the past, people had to be in the same place in order to work together. Today, online
collaboration allows people to accomplish a range of tasks collectively at any time and from any
location. Crowdsourcing, which uses a network of a large number of people to help solve a
problem, is increasing our scientific knowledge. Data collected from a crowdsourcing website
called Cerberus, for example, is helping astronomers analyze satellite images of Mars.
What makes humans want to collaborate? James K. Rilling, an anthropologist at Emory
University, looked at brain activity while participants were engaged in cooperative activities.
His study showed that the desire to cooperate with others may be innate in humans.
Researchers are also looking into ways to enhance human collaboration. Studies of the ways in
which animal and insect groups – such as ants – collaborate may help us figure out ways to
work together even more efficiently.
