Online Help
Online help is provided for reference while you are working. It can be accessed by selecting Help>Index from the Exponare Enquiry menu.
Getting Started
In this chapter:
Starting Exponare Enquiry.................................................................... 10 Logging On and Off ............................................................................... 10 Changing work contexts ....................................................................... 12 Panel Views ............................................................................................ 14 Back and Forward .................................................................................. 15 New Window ........................................................................................... 15
When Exponare Enquiry is loaded, a login screen will appear as pictured below. If you do not receive the login screen, contact your Exponare Administrator for advice on how to rectify the problem.
This tutorial generally assumes that you are logged in as User. 1. First of all, lets look at the Guest user. To login, type Guest, no password is necessary. Click OK. Note that the capitalisation is important. Once you log in successfully all options available to the user Guest are loaded including menus, buttons and tab options. A map is also loaded.
10
The initial work context for Guest. Note that there is no menu for this user.
2. 3.
To log off and return to the Exponare Enquiry login screen click the Log Off button Now log in as User by typing User for both login and password.
To set Exponare Enquiry to automatically type in your details for future sessions, tick the Remember my Login checkbox and click OK. This option should not be used on shared machines as then anyone could log in without needing a password. User has been set up with a standard user interface. 4. Now log off using the File menu by selecting File>Log Off:
5. 6.
Once again the login screen is displayed. Click Cancel. Now exit from Exponare Enquiry:
7.
Restart Exponare Enquiry. You will be logged in automatically. Exponare Enquiry remembers the size of the window and the layout you were using and opens with the same configuration the next time you login. Note: To disable the automatic log in option, choose File>Log Off. Next time you log back in, dont tick the box for automatic login.
11
Note: If you are working in a class environment, dont change the password for User, because your class mates will not be able to login. 3. The Change Password dialog box is displayed. Fill in the details required for the Old Password, New Password and Confirm Password. Click OK if you are confident that your changes will not affect others, otherwise click Cancel.
4.
If you have filled in the details correctly in step 3 and clicked OK, a dialog box confirms that your password has been changed. Click OK.
12
2.
Select File>Open Work Context A list of work contexts will appear as pictured right. A tick on the left of work context represents the current work context you are currently working on. You can change to a different work context by clicking one of the work contexts listed. Select Vegetation.
3.
A new map with different layers extra buttons is loaded and displayed.
Select File>Open Work Context>Aerial Photography 4. The Aerial Photography work context is loaded.
13
Another method that can be used to change the work context is by using the Home button . This button is located just below the File menu at the top left hand corner of the Exponare Enquiry window. Click on the down arrow of the Home button to display a list of available work contexts.
From the list of work contexts choose Animal Control. 5. The Animal Control work context is loaded.
Panel Views

You will now have the original map restored. Also, the Forward button is now enabled and this allows you to repeat the task that was just undone. Click the Forward button to repeat the Zoom In operation.
For the Sample Data, the Back and Forward buttons can remember a sequence of up to ten operations. There are some operations that cannot be undone, but all operations that affect the map can be undone, including transitions to different work contexts. As you work through this tutorial, you can use the Back and Forward buttons to fix any mistakes, or to rewind and repeat a sequence of operations. See Manipulating the Map for more information about the zoom tool.
New Window
The menu command File>New Window allows you to start Exponare Enquiry in another window. This is particularly useful if you want to have more than one work context open at a time. When you start a new Exponare Enquiry window in this way, Exponare Enquiry will attempt to log you in, open the same work context that you are currently in, and set the view to match your current view.

Home
The Home button was introduced earlier as a method of changing the current work context. This was achieved by clicking on the down arrow of the button. You can also use the Home button to return to the default view of the current work context at any time by clicking on the picture of the house on the Home button. You can also return to the default view by choosing Tools>Home.
Original map
Use the Zoom In button to click on the property with the house number of 39, then click on the property with the house number of 45. 6. Each time the Zoom In tool is used on the map, the map centers itself on the location that was clicked and concentrates on that part of the map by halving the current view width of the map.
As with the Zoom In tool, the Zoom Out tool centers the Map to where the Zoom Out tool was used, however this time the width of the map is now doubled. As Exponare Enquiry requests the information for the resulting map, the current map is again digitally altered to give a preview of the resulting map.
18
Another method for accessing the Zoom In and Zoom Out functionality is by using the Tools menu. Clicking on the Tool menu will show which tool is currently in use. 8. 9. Select Tools Pictured right, you can see that the current tool in use is the Zoom Out tool as it is currently ticked in the Tools menu. Select Zoom In
The zoom tools also allow you to drag a rectangle (called a marquee) over the map. In the case of a zoom in, the contents of the rectangle are expanded to fill the map. For a zoom out, the entire map is resized to fit inside the rectangle. Note that if you drag a rectangle that is a different shape to the map, Exponare Enquiry performs a best fit. 10. 11. 12. Click to reset the view of the Cadastre work context. Using the Zoom In tool, drag a box over several properties. The map is re-drawn with the selected properties in the centre.
Original map
Panning
The Pan button 1. 2. 3. allows you to reposition the map that is currently displayed. Click on Pan button to enable the map panning tool. Click on the map and drag the mouse cursor to another location on the map. The map is only regenerated when you release the mouse button.
Original map
As with the Zoom In and Zoom Out tools, the Panning tool can also be activated by selecting the Tools>Pan menu option or from the right-click map menu.
19
Move the mouse cursor to the other end of Lawson Place and perform a double click to indicate the end point to stop measuring.
Polylines
To measure a perimeter requires a multi segment line, more commonly known as a polyline. It is similar to measuring a distance from Point A to B except it requires more than two points. To achieve the desired result of measuring a polyline, start by clicking on the first point of where to start measuring from. Perform a single click each time it is necessary for the measuring tool to change direction. Once the final point is reached perform a double click. The resulting distance will then be shown on the status bar. The polyline to be measured in the next example will be the perimeter of the blue coloured property. 1. To measure the perimeter of the blue coloured property, use the Measure Distance tool and click on a corner of the property then follow the perimeter of the property and perform a single click on each corner. Return the mouse cursor to the corner that was chosen as the starting point and double click.
2.
Note that it is not necessary to return to the starting point to perform a double click. The method used for measuring a perimeter can also be used to measure any polyline feature.
20
Area
A different tool is used for measuring areas. The next example will demonstrate how to use the Measure Area tool by measuring the area contained within the blue coloured property. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Click on the Measure Area button . Click on a corner of the property to start measuring. Follow the perimeter of the property and click on the next corner of the property. Again, follow the perimeter for the next corner. As the third point is chosen note that a line is drawn between the starting position and the current position of the mouse cursor. Click on the third corner, move the position of the mouse to the final corner and perform a double click. As with the Measure Distance tool, the resulting Area is also shown on the Status bar.
Note that the perimeter of the area measured is also shown. It is more efficient to measure perimeters using the Measure Area tool. An alternative method of activating the measuring tools would be to choose the desired measuring functionality from the Tools menu.
Showing Labels
The show Auto Labels function allows you to switch on or off the Auto-Labels for all layers using Tools>Show Auto Labels and the Auto Label button . The Auto Labels is currently on. 1. 2. 3. Click to reset the view of the Cadastre work context.
Use the Zoom Out button and click three times in the centre of the map. Suburb names are displayed in tan coloured text.

The current map frame is repositioned; taking the zoom width of the box generated and applying it to best fit the current map frame.
Clicking on the Overview Map maintains the current zoom width and recentres the current map frame.
24
25
Now enter 1 mile. 5. The mile is converted into kilometres and the map is redrawn.
A history of the zoom widths applied is kept and can be accessed by clicking on Set Zoom Width dropdown.
Save Map
Use File>Save Map to save the map as a portable network graphics (png) file.

6.
When one or more properties are selected, the Legend tab is replaced by the Information tab.
The Information tab has three sections: a) A drop-down menu that lists the layers that the current selection is based on as there may be more than one. In this scenario all the selections are based on the one layer, the Property Parcels layer.
b)
A drop down menu that lists the selections from the layer displayed above. That is, use the first drop-down to select a layer, and the second drop-down to select a feature on that layer. Keep in mind that you may have features selected from multiple layers, even after just using a single selection tool. If you cannot locate the information you need, try changing the current layer using the first drop-down.
37
c)
The third, and largest, section lists information for the feature in the second drop-down. The information that is shown is configured by the administrator, and may be different in each work context.
7.
Select a feature from the second drop-down list. The map shows this feature in a highlighted colour.
Property 3033
Property 5621
8.
Click on the buttons to expand the different data binds. Each data bind is a set of data that describes the feature, such as its owner, planning details or, as illustrated below, spatial information.
Some data binds have multiple records. For example, if one property has multiple owners, the Property Owner data bind will have more than one record. If this occurs, you can move between the different rows by using the arrow buttons that appear.
38
It is also possible to change the Active Selection to another entry: 1. 2. Click a row in the column under the Apply button to select another entry in the grid. The highlighting changes to indicate the chosen record. Click Apply.
3.
The map now shows the changed Active Selection which matches the highlighted entry in the grid.

Queries
In this chapter:
Queries.................................................................................................... 45
Chapter 7: Queries
Queries
Queries allow you to make selections based on criteria, rather than having to point and click to select features visually. If you make selections by running a query, the information is displayed in the selection results panels exactly the same as if you had selected the features with the mouse tools. On the Query panel, you can select the Hide Unselected Features checkbox and then fire query. This will show you only the features returned by the query on the layer on which query was fired and other layer settings will remain as it is. This can be useful in case the query returned multiple selected features and the map therefore zooms out to a level that makes it hard to distinguish between the selected and non-selected features. You can use all tools when viewing only the selected features. Click "Reset Features" button to view the whole layer on which query was fired along with the selected features. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. If necessary, open Exponare Enquiry, and login as User. Select File>Open Context>Animal Control. Click to reset the view of the Animal Control work context. Select Queries>Find property by lot/plan number. The Query tab is displayed. This is where you enter query parameters. Click Submit to run the query with the default Lot and Plan number parameters.
7.
The results are displayed in both selection results panels and the map will now reposition itself to display the results in the map. The map repositions itself by changing the zoom width to best fit the result, as well as centering the map frame to the result. Check Hide Unelected Features on the Query panel to show only the features the query returned. You can use all tools when viewing only the selected features. Click Reset Features" button to view the whole layer on which query was fired along with the selected features.
45
Chapter 7: Queries
An alternative to using the Queries menu is to use the drop-down selector on the Queries panel. The dropdown menu displays the same list of queries available in the Queries menu. 1. Choose Find dogs by breed from the list of pre-defined queries listed in the Queries drop-down.
2. 3.
Click BLUE HEELER to open a list of all available dog breeds and select one. Click Submit.
4.
Here are the results of the query after choosing AKITA INU.
46
Chapter 7: Queries
5.
Click on the Queries tab and search for the dogs of the breed BOXER. The result from the search has returned five features. Note that the map frame has now repositioned itself and zoomed out to a zoom width that best fits the results. The resulting map frame now accommodates the display of all five properties that have a dog of the breed BOXER. Check Hide Unelected Features on the Queries panel to show only the features the query returned. You can use all tools when viewing only the selected features. Click "Reset Features" button to view the whole layer on which query was fired along with the selected features.
Another alternative to access predefined queries is to click on a button associated to the query from the toolbar as shown below. Hovering over the buttons in the toolbar will display a tool tip to assist in identifying which button represents which pre-defined query.
1. 2. 3.
Click the first Query shortcut, Select all cats above a given age, and enter 12 as the parameter. There arent any so the Query Results dialog box is displayed. Click OK.
Note that the first query produced one result, the second two, the third five, and the last query generated no results. When the query returns a result, Exponare Enquiry zooms to a zoom value that will display all the selections and centres the results in the map frame. The options available for the user to customize the query are set by the administrator. These options can come in the form of a preset or dynamic list presented in a popup menu where the user can select the option desired (such as the Dog Breed) or the option can be given in the form of an edit textbox where the user can manually type in the desired parameter (such as Lot and Plan, or age of cat).

In this chapter:
Introduction ............................................................................................ 66 Searching for an Address ..................................................................... 66
65
Introduction
If your organisation has purchased Envinsa or MapMarker your administrator can link Exponare to either of these to allow you to search for properties or other features. Although this functionality is similar to that provided by appropriate queries, the Address Search performs special processing to optimise the results that are returned. Another major difference is that after a successful Search Address operation, marking symbols are placed on the map rather than map features being selected. You can thus search for addresses without affecting the current and active selections. If you perform a search and wish to make a selection, you can use the regular map selection tools to select the feature of interest.
6.
The search results are displayed at the bottom of the panel. Click Show,
7.
The map is now redrawn and a star is shown at the chosen address. If this address is correct, you can use the map tools to select the feature of interest, such as a property, park or railway station. You can make more searches and add further marks to the map
8. 9.
Click Clear Map to clear address marks from the map. Click Reset to clear the address search parameters and search results.
