QUARTER 1 | LESSON 1
MEASURING TOOLS
AND IMPLEMENTS
.
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?
LEARNING COMPETENCY:
• Identify object or component to be measured.
• Choose test instruments to be used for specific tasks.
• Identify alternative measuring tools without sacrificing cost
and quality of work.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
• LO 1. Select measuring tools and instruments; and
• LO 2. Carry out measurements and calculations.
This lesson will discuss the importance of using the right measuring tools and
instruments for the job. Each measuring tools and instruments are precisely
designed for a specific purpose, so using the correct measuring tools and
instrument will make the work precise and accurate.
WHAT DO I KNOW?
Let us see how well do you know about the topic.
Begin by answering the Pre-Test on the next page..
Use your notebook in writing your answers.
A. Direction: Match the electrical measuring tools and instruments in Column A to
their descriptions in Column B. Write the letter of your answer in the space provided
before each number.
Column A Column B
_____ 1. A. Tachometer
_____2. B. Wattmeter
_____5.
E. Megger Tester
II. Multiple Choice:
Direction: Select the letter of the best answer. Write the answer on your
notebook.
1. An instrument used to measure the amount of electrical current intensity in a
circuit.
a. Voltmeter b. Ammeter c. Micrometer d. Ohmmeter
2. A pocket sized tool used to test the line wire or circuit if there is current in it.
a. Test light b. Wire gauge c. Ruler d. Pull-push rule
3. A measuring tool used to measure the length of an object in centimeter and
inches.
a. Test light b. Wire gauge c. Ruler d. Pull-push rule
4. It is used to measure the diameter of wires/conductors in circular mils. It can
measure small and big sizes of wires and cables.
a. Voltmeter b. Ammeter c .Micrometer d. Wire gauge
5. It is used to measure the voltage, resistance and current of a circuit. It
connected in parallel or series with the circuit depending on what to measure.
a. Volt-Ohm-Millimeter b. Micrometer c. Ohmmeter d. Ammeter

1 IMPLEMENTS
WHAT’S IN?
You learned from our previous lesson the different electrical supplies and
materials like electrical wire/conductor, flat cord and conduits which are used to
carry electrical current from the source to the current consuming apparatus. In
order for us to determine the exact size of materials and exact measurement of the
location or area, we have to know how to use the different measuring tools.
WHAT’S NEW?
WHAT IS IT?
Measuring Tools and Implements
These are used to measure currents, voltages, resistances, wattages and other
important elements in electrical works. Different kinds of measuring tools and
precision measuring instruments are as follows:
Test Light - is a pocket size tool used to test the line wire or circuit if there is current in
it.
Push pull- rule is a measuring tape that coils into a compact case. It is used for
measuring long, short, straight lengths.
Clamp Ammeter - is also called tong- tester. It is used to measure current flowing in
a conductor. It is clamped or hanged in a conductor.
