Nowadays the way many people interact with each other has changed because
of technology.
In what ways has technology affected the types of relationships people make?
Has this become a positive or negative development?

Means of communication by people has taken a turn due to the impressive


technological development. This essay will discuss the ways technology has
affected and influenced relationships between individuals and I will further explain
how the changes could be both positive and negative.

On the one hand, computer and telecommunication allow individuals to maintain


relationships with their loved ones, who are especially living overseas. Back in the
old days, it was hard to keep in touch with friends, family’s members, lovers that
live far away by exchanging letters as it took an awful lot of time to deliver them
back and forth, and many scenarios could happen that led to losing contact. Now is
the technology era, most of time people communicate through social media and
messages can be passed across via a small device with little amount of time.
Subsequently, regardless of the place people live in, they keep in touch with each
other any time frame.

The said development can be seen as a positive change that plays a crucial role in
helping a relationship last. It is very convenient; everyone only needs a smartphone
or a laptop that can connect to Internet and they can interact with the others from
all around the world any moment. Various applications like WhatsApp, Facebook,
Instagram are free of cost and can be used to deliver messages within a fraction of
second, hence some people can even find their old acquaintances on these
platforms. Nobody has to scare about losing touch with their significant others
despite the long distance as long as they still have their phone.

On the other hand, with the advent of technology, many relationships become
mean and cruel. Cyberbullying is no longer an unfamiliar issue in modern life with
the use of digital technologies, it takes place over digital devices like cell phones,
computers, and tablets or on messaging platforms, gaming platforms. People tend
to spread rumours, send mean messages and threats to others via those social
platforms, as a result, it causes embarrassment or humiliation to the victim or even
crosses the line into unlawful and criminal behaviours.
An impression like that is considered as a drawback of how technology has
impacted humans. People who want to be mean but do not want to hold themselves
accountable or face the consequences of their actions, can stay anonymous. Some
even use fake accounts to harass their target repeatedly and get away with their
horrible action despite leaving a digital footprint. While the attacker might laugh
behind the computer screen and do not care of the consequences since they are not
got caught, the victim will be the one suffering the most, both mentally and
physically.

As can be seen, interact among individuals has changed over time due to
technological advancement which has greatly affected the relationships they share
in either a negative or positive way and manner.
