ABC Pharmacy

Pharmacist: Good afternoon. We’re calling from ABC Pharmacy because we have
some prescriptions under your name. Since you have never used our pharmacy, we
need to create your profile.

Client: Thank you. I was waiting for your call. I just got home from the hospital, and I
need my medication. I’m running out of the pain meds they gave me at the hospital.

Pharmacist: Yes, we understand how important it is for you to receive medications on

time. We’ll try to get this done as quickly as possible. Let’s start with basic information,
such as your name, date of birth and address.

Client: My name is Lena Blanco, January 31st, 1955. I live on 123 Collins Ave in
Orlando.

Pharmacist: Thank you. Please tell us about your medical history. Do you have any
chronic medical conditions?

Client: Yes. I suffer from hypertension, pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, and occasional
migraines. Also, I had my thyroid removed two years ago.

Pharmacist: Thank you for being thorough, that definitely helps us. Do you have any
allergies to food or medications?

Client: Yes. I am allergic to dust, pollen, mold and different plants and trees that bloom
in the spring and fall. I do weekly allergy shots but sometimes, especially during the
change of the seasons, I feel worse. For that I take Allegra 180 mg every day, once a
day.

Pharmacist: Thank you. Which medications are you taking on a regular basis for the
health conditions you mentioned earlier?

Client: I take Lisinopril 10 mg once a day for blood pressure; Metformin 500 mg twice a
day for diabetes; Atorvastatin 20 mg once a day for high cholesterol. I also take
Levothyroxine 25 mg once a day for my thyroid problems. And when I have migraines, I
take Naproxen.
Pharmacist: Got it! Thank you very much. Now let me tell you what we have for you to
pick up: Your doctor ordered Colace which is a stool softener. It is actually available
over the counter, and we can show you where it is located when you come in.

We also have Percocet 2.5 mg/325 mg. This is a pain relief medication and can be
taken as 1-2 tablets every 4 hrs. Please remember that this medication contains an
opioid called Oxycodone that may be addictive. Please use it only as needed for pain.

Client: Wow! That is a lot of information. I hope I can remember all of it. Did they
include my Medrol Dosepak which is a steroid medication?

Pharmacist: Yes they did! And each medication comes with all the information
including instructions and side effects. The most common ones are nausea, upset
stomach, diarrhea, constipation, and headaches. If you noticed symptoms that are more
serious than the ones I just mentioned, please contact your doctor.

Client: Are there any drug interactions or dietary restrictions with any of these
medications?

Pharmacist: I am glad you asked. You cannot take Naproxen for more than 30 days;
and while taking Naproxen do not take Advil, Aleve, Motrin or Ibuprofen at the same
time. That means that you may need to reach out to your doctor and ask for a different
medication for your migraines. There are no dietary restrictions with the prescribed
medications. Your prescriptions are ready for pick up. Do you have any other questions?

Client: Yes, do you guys do delivery?

Pharmacist: We would be happy to deliver your regular medications to your home.

However, your prescription includes Percocet which is a controlled substance so you
have to pick it up in person.

Client: I understand. Thank you for calling me. I will be there this afternoon.
