11:2 וַיְ ִהי ְלעֵ ת ָהעֶ ֶרב ַוּי ָָקם ָּד ִוד ֵמעַ ל ִמ ְׁשּכָ ב

And it came to pass in an

and·he-is-becoming to·time-of the·evening and·he-is-arising David from·on bed-of·him arose from off his bed, and
walked upon the roof of the
) ֵוַּיִ ְת ַהּל ּגַג ־ עַ ל ֵּבית ַה ֶּמלֶ ) ־ ַוּי ְַרא ִאּׁשָ ה ֹחצֶ ת
ֶ ר ֵמעַ ל king's house: and from the
roof he saw a woman
u·ithelk ol - gg bith - e·mlk u·ira ashe rchtzth m·ol
washing herself; and the
and·he-is-swalking on top-of house-of the·king and·he-is-seeing woman washing from·on
woman [was] very beautiful
to look upon.
ַהּגָג ְו ָה ִאּׁשָ ה טבת
ַ ַמ ְראֶ ה ְמאֹד :
e·gg u·e·ashe tubth mrae mad :
the·housetop and·the·woman good-of appearance exceedingly
11:3 ׁשלַ ח
ְ ִוַּי ָּד ִוד וַּיִ ְדרֹׁש לָ ִאּׁשָ ה ֹאמר
ֶ וַּי ז ֹאת ־ הֲלא

And David sent and
u·ishlch dud u·idrsh l·ashe u·iamr e·lua - zath enquired after the woman.
and·he-is-sending David and·he-is-inquiring to·the·woman and·he-is-saying ?·not this And [one] said, [Is] not this
Bathsheba, the daughter of
ַּבת־ׁשֶ ַבע ַּבת אֵ ׁשֶ ת א ֱִליעָ ם ־ אּורּיָה
ִ ַה ִח ִּתי : Eliam, the wife of Uriah the
Hittite?

And David sent
u·ishlch dud mlakim u·iqch·e u·thbua ali·u messengers, and took her;
and·he-is-sending David messengers and·he-is-taking·her and·she-is-coming to·him and she came in unto him,
and he lay with her; for she
וַּיִ ְׁשּכַ ב ִע ָּמּה ְו ִהיא ִמ ְת ַק ֶּדׁשֶ ת ִמּטֻ ְמאָ ָתּה was purified from her
uncleanness: and she

returned unto her house.
and·he-is-lying-down with·her and·she hallowing-herself from·uncleanness-of·her

11:5 הר
ַ ַּת
ַ ו ָה ִאּׁשָ ה ו ִַּת ְׁשלַ ח ַּתּגֵד
ַ ו ְל ָד ִוד

And the woman
u·ther e·ashe u·thshlch u·thgd l·dud conceived, and sent and told
and·she-is-becoming-pregnant the·woman and·she-is-sending and·she-is-ctelling to·David David, and said, I [am] with
child.
ֹאמר
ֶ וַּת ָה ָרה אָ נ ִֹכי:
u·thamr ere anki :
and·she-is-saying pregnant I
11:6 ׁשלַ ח
ְ ִוַּי ָּד ִוד ְׁשלַ ח יאָ ב ־ אֶ ל אֵ לַ י אּורּיָה ־ אֶ ת
ִ ַה ִח ִּתי וַּיִ ְׁשלַ ח

. And David sent to Joab,
u·ishlch dud al - iuab shlch al·i ath - aurie e·chthi u·ishlch [saying], Send me Uriah the
and·he-is-sending David to Joab send-you ! to·me » Uriah the·Hittite and·he-is-sending Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah
to David.

and·he-is-saying David to·Uriah go-down-you ! to·house-of·you and·wash-you ! feet-of·you wash thy feet. And Uriah
departed out of the king's

But Uriah slept at the door

went not down to his house.

11:10 ַוּיַּגִ דּו ְל ָד ִוד לֵ אמֹר י ַָרד ־ ל ֹא אּורּיָה

And when they had told

David said unto Uriah,

ִ הֲלא )ִמ ֶּד ֶר ָבא אַ ָּתה ּדּוע
ַ ַמ י ַָר ְד ָּת ־ ל ֹא Camest thou not from [thy]
journey? why [then] didst

And Uriah said unto
u·iamr aurie al - dud e·arun u·ishral u·ieude ishbim David, The ark, and Israel,
and·he-is-saying Uriah to David the·coffer and·Israel and·Judah ones-dwelling and Judah, abide in tents;
and my lord Joab, and the
ַּב ֻּסּכת וַאדֹנִ י ְועַ ְב ֵדי יאָ ב אדֹנִ י
ֲ ְּפנֵי ־ עַ ל ַהּׂשָ ֶדה servants of my lord, are
encamped in the open

fields; shall I then go into
in·the·booths and·lord-of·me Joab and·servants-of lord-of·me on surfaces-of the·field
mine house, to eat and to
drink, and to lie with my

ֱ ֶל ְו ִל ְׁשּתת wife? [as] thou livest, and
chnim u·ani abua al - bith·i l·akl u·l·shthuth [as] thy soul liveth, I will
ones-encamping and·I I-shall-enter to house-of·me to·to-eat-of and·to·to-drink-of not do this thing.

11:12 ֹאמר
ֶ וַּי ָּד ִוד אּורּיָה ־ אֶ ל
ִ ׁשֵ ב ָּבזֶה ּגַם ַהּים ־ ּומ ָחר
ָ

And David said to Uriah,
u·iamr dud al - aurie shb b·ze gm - e·ium u·mchr Tarry here to day also, and
and·he-is-saying David to Uriah sit-you ! in·this moreover the·day and·tomorrow to morrow I will let thee
depart. So Uriah abode in
ָאֲׁשַ ְּל ֶחּך ַוּיֵׁשֶ ב אּורּיָה
ִ ִבירּוׁשָ לַ ִם ַּבּים ַההּוא ּומ ָּמח ֳָרת
ִ : Jerusalem that day, and the
morrow.

and·he-is-inviting to·him David and·he-is-eating to·faces-of·him and·he-is-drinking drink before him; and he
made him drunk: and at
וַיְ ׁשַ ְּכ ֵרהּו ַוּיֵצֵ א ָבעֶ ֶרב ִל ְׁשּכַ ב ְּב ִמ ְׁשּכָ ב even he went out to lie on
his bed with the servants of

ִעם עַ ְב ֵדי ־ דנָיו

ֲ ְואֶ ל ֵּבית ־ ל ֹא י ָָרד :

11:15 ּתב
ֹ וַּיִ ְכ ַּב ֵּספֶ ר לֵ אמֹר ָהבּו אּורּיָה ־ אֶ ת
ִ מּול ־ אֶ ל

And he wrote in the
u·ikthb b·sphr l·amr ebu ath - aurie al - mul letter, saying, Set ye Uriah
and·he-is-writing in·the·scroll to·to-say-of grant-you(p) ! » Uriah to forefront in the forefront of the
hottest battle, and retire ye
ְּפנֵי ַה ִּמ ְל ָח ָמה חז ָָקה
ֲ ַה ְוׁשַ ְב ֶּתם ֵמאַ ח ֲָריו ְונִ ּכָ ה from him, that he may be
smitten, and die.

and·they-are-coming-forth mortals-of the·city and·they-are-nfighting with Joab Joab: and there fell [some]
of the people of the servants
וַּיִ ּפֹל ִמן ָהעָ ם ־ ֵמעַ ְב ֵדי ָד ִוד ָמת
ָ ַוּי ּגַם אּורּיָה
ִ of David; and Uriah the
Hittite died also.

ָ ְו ַּתעֲלֶ ה ־ ִאם ח ַמת

11:23 ֹאמר
ֶ וַּי ) ַָה ַּמ ְלא ָּד ִוד ־ אֶ ל ִּכי ג ְָברּו ־ עָ לֵ ינּו אנ ִָׁשים

And the messenger said
u·iamr e·mlak al - dud ki - gbru oli·nu e·anshim unto David, Surely the men
and·he-is-saying the·messenger to David that they-had-the-mastery over·us the·mortals prevailed against us, and
came out unto us into the
ַוּי ְֵצאּו אֵ לֵ ינּו ַהּׂשָ ֶדה וַּנִ ְהיֶה יהם
ֶ ֵעֲל עַ ד ּפֶ ַתח ־ field, and we were upon
them even unto the entering

Then David said unto the
u·iamr dud al - e·mlak ke - thamr al - iuab al - messenger, Thus shalt thou
and·he-is-saying David to the·messenger thus you-shall-say to Joab must-not-be say unto Joab, Let not this
thing displease thee, for the
י ֵַרע 5ְּבעֵ ינֶי ַה ָּד ָבר ־ אֶ ת ַהּזֶה ִּכי כָ זֹה ־ ְוכָ זֶה sword devoureth one as
well as another: make thy

battle more strong against
he-is-being-evil in·eyes-of·you » the·matter the·this that as·this and·as·this
the city, and overthrow it:
and encourage thou him.
ּת ֹאכַ ל ֶה ָח ֶרב חזֵק

ִ ִאיׁשָ ּה ו ִַּת ְסּפֹד עַ ל ־

And when the wife of

and·she-is-hearing woman-of Uriah that he-died Uriah man-of·her and·she-is-wailing over husband was dead, she
mourned for her husband.

ֲ ַו ַּי ָהאֵ ֶבל וַּיִ ְׁשלַ ח ָּד ִוד ַוּיַאַ ְספָ ּה ־ אֶ ל

And when the mourning

and·he-is-passing the·mourning and·he-is-sending David and·he-is-gathering·her to fetched her to his house,
and she became his wife,
ֵּבית ו ְַּת ִהי ל ־ ְל ִאּׁשָ ה ַּתלֶ ד
ֵ ו ל ֵּבן and bare him a son. But the
thing that David had done

displeased the LORD.
