MUD PLASTERS
INTRO
DUCTION
When considering plaster choices for earthen
walls, it is essential to grasp the variety of
options and their application techniques, as
they greatly impact both the functionality and
visual appeal of the structure.
INTRO
DUCTION
Mud, lime, and pozzolanic plasters surpass the
durability of the previous two types because
materials undergo a pozzolanic reaction when
combined with lime.
Lime plasters consist of lime and fine
aggregates like sand or stone powder. They
offer strength and waterproofing qualities when
applied in layers and are a traditional choice in
many regions of South India.
Lime pozzolanic plasters provide superior
waterproofing and durability compared to other
plasters, thanks to the pozzolanic action that
occurs when lime is involved.
Clay plasters provide a straightforward way to
achieve a smooth plaster surface. They are
strong but not inherently water-resistant;
however, you can enhance their water
resistance by applying sealants like linseed oil.
Lime washes consist of thin layers applied in
multiple coats. The more coats you apply, the
greater the water resistance becomes.
