I. Introduction

Print media is one of the basic and oldest forms of communication. It


includes magazines, posters, newspapers and other printed materials. The
legacy of print media in giving information and knowledge is noticeable
because even after the appearance of electronic media, the print media did not
lost its charm to people. Print media has the better way of making people to
remember details with a longer period of time, with all knowledgeable reports
and analysis. Magazines and newspapers are the most common traditional
print media used in advertising products and other stuffs. Brochures, flyers
and other pieces also referred as print collateral. Digital media expansion
affected the use of print because digital media is way easier and faster to
advertise now a day. Primary strengths of print than to digital include that it is
actual, touchable, an enduring message and high credibility. Some people
prefer to read media in print as opposed to digital formats because the
information will stay longer in mind.

II. Background of Printing Press

According to McFadden(2018), the most important invention of all time is


the printing press, it is the cheap, quick and easy way of distribution of the
information. It is a means of manual transferring ink from an inked surface
and the medium. An old printing press is any form of technology that applies
pressure between an inked surface and a print medium (like paper or cloth). In
this sense, the printing press is manipulated by a person.

It is an improvement on previous methods, like transcribing by using a hand,


pen and ink or brushing and rubbing to achieve ink transfer. When mentioning
the word printing press most will instantly think of Johannes Guttenberg.
Regarding the progress of printing press developed in China, Gutenberg's
press stand out from its predecessors because of his integration of automation
for transferring ink from movable type to paper. He uses the screw mechanism
from papermakers' presses, wine presses and linen presses to have a system
perfectly suited from printing. His device enabled or allowing the mass-
production of books at a cheaper price.

Print media became known all over the world and as the years passes by
many individual are try to improve the old printing press and now the old
printing press improve a lot way better and faster. According to Bellis(2019),
computer printers began in the year 1938 when Chester Carlson, Seattle
inventor, invented a dry printing process called electrophotography also
known now a day as a Xerox which was to be the foundation for other
technology printing. Technology, computing printers, linotypes and
typesetters are all part of the improvement of the old printing press.
Technology has a lot of impact to this invention since the printing press won’t
work well without technology and this technology became the base of the
printing. Today’s generation printer and printing are faster and the ideas of the
inventor to improve this is out of this world because today’s generation people
are so dependent on instant things that’s why new printing press is very

III. Purpose

The purpose of this concept of old printing press to new printing press is
to have a lot of printed materials to use since now a day many people are
using digital media because it is very fast and anyone can access this type of
medium and the result of this the print media became unpopular but there are
still people using printed materials because of its usefulness and base on our
research printed materials has more impact on remembering the details and it
is tangible and after using printed materials others are recycling those to create
new things such as bags, boxes and paper crafts and it can be source of
income.

Old printing press to new printing press means many outputs of printed
materials will be produce since the old printing press is manual the production
of printed materials are slow and the outputs are only few since it is time
consuming and has a lot of process but the new printing press is high tech and
the machines are automated many printed materials or outputs will be
produce, less time consuming and less process. New printing press will
provide many outputs and the outcome of this is many people can have or can
acquire this and at the same time the second purpose will be done it is to make
every people remember print media and to use printed materials so that in the
future printed media, printing and printed materials will still exist and will still
be known and can be studied by the future generation.

The process of improving the printing press will continue and the outcome
will be continues too, many outputs can be done by printing press such us
news, magazine, flyers and brochure that can help everyone to have better life
like increasing the income through printed advertising and it can also be the
use of intelligence or the knowledge gain from reading this printed materials
thus researcher can conclude the print media is very useful and important. The
old printing press to new printing press purposes are make people use printed
materials, value the printing press and to remember the print media. Today’s
generation is hard to imagine a world without printed material even in the
digital age; products produced by printing presses are still an integral part of
daily life.

 Printed copies are more accurate. With manuscripts copied by hand,
errors creep in as copyists misread the original, or put down the
wrong words, letters or figures.

 Knowledge passed on orally, or from scribe to scribe, had grown
increasingly fragmentary and corrupted over time. The printing press
made it possible to collect and organize knowledge and pass it on
intact.
