JOB SUMMARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The Scrap Metal Inspector will report to the Chief Trade Officer of • Excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills the Trade Licence Unit. The Scrap Metal Inspector will be required • Proficient Report writing skills to visit and conduct inspection of scrap metal and scrap metal sites, advise the Chief Trade Officer on all matters related to the Scrap Metal • Training in Metallurgy will be an asset Industry, interface with stakeholders of the Scrap Metal Industry and • Computer literacy members of the public The Inspector will be required to collaborate • Be knowledgeable of the Scrap Metal Act 2022 and other with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Customs and relevant legislation Excise Division, the Environmental Management Authority and the Municipal and Regional Corporations as required. • Access to a working motor vehicle DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Implement a strategic scrap metal inspection programme for all MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING sites; • Five (5) CXC O’Levels inclusive of Mathematics and English • Issue Scrap Metal Dealer and Collectors Licenses; • At least 5-7 years’ experience working in a similar position A Diploma in Engineering, Environmental Science or Process • Issue notice of suspension or revocation of Licenses to Dealers Operations, Metallurgy or a related field will be an asset. and Collectors; • Register and issue certificates of registration to Dealers and OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS Collectors; • Contractual position for a period of three (3) years in the first • Oversee the maintenance of the Scrap Metal Licenses Register; instance • Process Intention to Load Scrap Metal for Export notices; • A Travelling allowance and Duty Allowance will be provided for • Visit and inspect scrap metal sites; this position • Interview the employees of scrap metal sites; • Oversee the loading of scrap metal into containers for export; • Interview the staff working at the scrap metal site; • Certify scrap metal for export; • Take samples of scrap metal; • Inspect any container, vehicle or other vessel which is used or intended to be used for the storage or transportation of scrap metal; • Open and examine any container or package in which it is stored which contravenes or which the inspector believes contravenes this Act • Give directives to the operator or any container, vehicle, aircraft, boat or vessel which is used or intended to be used for the storage or transportation of scrap metal; and Submit your Curriculum Vitae, giving details of qualifications and • Examine and where necessary, make copies of, or take extracts experience to: from any records and documents required to be kept under this Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade and Industry Act.
