Subject WESTERLY WAVE CONTINUES TO PREVAIL OVER THE ENTIRE COUNTRY

Pakistan Meteorological Department have informed that the westerly wave continues to prevail over the
entire country. Under its influence: Dust-thunderstorm/Rain of moderate intensity with isolated heavy falls likely to occur
in Jamshoro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Qambar Shahdadkot, Larkano, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Ghotki,
Naushahro Feroze, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Matiari, Umerkot, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Sujawal, Sanghar,
Badin districts & Karachi division till tonight.
Possible Impacts
 Wind/thunderstorm and lightning may damage standing crops, loose structures like electric poles, vehicles and solar
panels etc. during the period.
 Farmers especially in wheat harvested areas are advised to manage their crops according to weather conditions.
 Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary traveling during the wet period.
 Temperatures are likely to drop during the wet spell.
In view of the above, the Deputy Commissioner(s)/ Chairman DDMA(s), Line Departments and other relevant
Authorities/ Stakeholders are requested to take necessary precautionary measures including:
 Ensure availability of dewatering machines and the staff during rainfall.
 Improve coordination with emergency services, also with various line departments.
 Establishment of helpline Cell number to address needs of affected people at priority basis.
 Ensure availability of uninterrupted power supply through intimate coordination with concerned line departments and
provision / availability of standby generators for hospitals.
 Emergency services and ambulances with trained paramedics to remain available round the clock.
 Coordinate with concerned departments (NHA, NH&MP and FWO) for issuing necessary alerts to travelers, especially
over long distances to take precaution and avoid over exposure to rainfall.
 Ensure removal of vulnerable Billboards, Falling Trees, Loose Electric wires, Electric poles etc.
 Ensure coordination with Rescue 1122 Authorities.
For General Public
 Monitor the weather alerts through print media, electronic media, & social media.
 Stay indoor unless absolutely necessary. Keep doors and windows shut and avoid sitting near windows as rain is often
accompanied by strong winds.
 Maintain a distance from power lines or electrical wires. If you notice any loose electric wires in your area, alert the
authorities immediately.
 Avoid touching electrical switches or outlets while it is raining. Do not try using electrical sockets or outlets outdoors
while it is raining.
 Avoid driving in heavy rain because of poor visibility.
 Avoid underpasses, drainage ditches, low-lying areas and areas where water collects.
 Check on family members who are especially at risk from weather hazards: young children, older adults, and the
chronically ill.
 Avoid parking near walls, Weak structure, & under trees.
