INTRODUCTION

The project report includes the techno economic feasibility of setting up and functioning of a
food production unit under the name and style of TASTY PICKS. The project is at
Kannimelcherry - Maruthadi in Kollam District.

TASTY PICKS MAKING UNIT

Introduction: Pickles are a delicacy that is made all around the world. Some people make it
with fruits whereas some people use vegetables. Whatever the ingredients may be, it is a
famous recipe and liked by all. For making pickles various equipments are required which
includes one of the most important one, which is a pickle jar.

Pickles have various importance:

• Helps digestion- Fermented pickles are full of good bacteria called pro-biotic, which are
important for gut health.

• Fights diseases- Cucumbers are high in an antioxidant called beta-carotene, which your body
turns into vitamin A.

• May ease muscle cramps.

• Curb sugar spikes.


USES & MARKET POTENTIAL

According to a report published in March 2018, the global pickles and pickle products market
is expected to register of CAGR of 3.2% during the forecast period, 2018 to 2023. There is a
moderate level of competition in the global market as the industry is scattered. Pickles by
regional players using local products are preferred in the market. It is relatively easy for new
entrants due to the trend of customer shifting from one brand in India include Aachi Foods,
MTR foods, NEO Foods & craft foods.

Handmade Pickles – (Fish, Beef, Lime, Mango, Garlic, Ginger, etc) , Curry Powders, Jams

RAW MATERIAL

The raw materials are mentioned below:

 Fish, Beef, Lemon, Mango, Cauliflower, carrot, ginger, garlic, green chili, turnip, cucumber
etc. is the primary raw material for the preparation of vegetables pickle.

 The secondary ingredients like salt, red chili powder, turmeric, black pepper, cardamom
(large), cinnamon (powdered), cumin, aniseed powder, mustard, vinegar, and mustard oil are
required.

 Good qualities of packaging bottle or plastic bags which are suitable for the packaging of
pickles are required.
MANUFACTURING PROCESS

AREA

The industrial setup requires space for Inventory, workshop or manufacturing area, space for
power supply utilities and polishing area. Also, some of the area of building is required for
office staff facilities, office furniture, etc. Thus, the approximate total area required for
complete industrial setup is 900 Sqft.
PROMOTER

The unit will function as a sole proprietary concern under the proprietor of Mrs. Sunitha
Nithya Valsalan, aged 56, residing at Pramodayam, Pullithekakthil, Kannimelcherry,
Kavanad P.O. in Kollam district. The promoter has 2 years’ experience in marketing of
pickles in Kollam District.

NATURE OF THE PROJECT

The proposed activities of the unit comprised of production and sale of Pickles, Curry
Powders like Sambar Powder, Masala Powder, Meat Malasa Powder, Jams.

TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY

Scope and Marketing:

The proposed product of the unit is pickle. The pickles being daily used food products has
a ready market always. Unlike past all class of consumers, consuming readily available
pickles from market rather than making them in home. The unit proposed to making good
quality pickles at reasonable cost, therefore it can easily establish its brands name in market.
The people now a days depending ready to eat pickles due to factors like lack of time to
make them, efforts involving in preparing pickles. The promoter has experience in food
product business for last few years, and has good contact with various markets, grocery
shops, hotels etc. All these will enable him to market the products without any difficulty.
Thus, by consideration of all above factors, it can conclude that there is high scope for
pickles manufacturing units.

Govt. licenses and permissions: The unit has already obtained all the required licenses.
Byproduct and effluent: The unit will not generate any byproduct and effluent.
LOCATION AND INFRASTRUCTURAL FECILITIES

Location.: The project is proposed to be Pramodayam, Pullithekakthil, Kannimelcherry,


Kavanad P.O. in Kollam district.

Land and Building: The proposed unit will function in a rented building bearing Ward
number 55 of Pramodayam, Pullithekakthil, Kannimelcherry, Kavanad P.O. in Kollam
district. The unit required a building area of 900 Square Feet. The land and building space
are enough for proper carrying out of activities of the unit.

Raw materials: The important raw materials required by the units are Mango, Lime,
Ginger, Garlic, Pickle powder and Oil. All the raw materials required for the unit is available
in any quantity at reasonable rate from local market. So, there will not be any scarcity for
the availability of raw materials.

Transportation: The location of the unit is aside the main road and is also nearest to
Kollam Corporation. There is enough space in premises for parking the vehicles and smooth
flow of men and materials.

Labour: The labour can easily procure from local places at reasonable cost at any volume
if needed.

Power: The unit requires 8 HP power to commence production. Power will be arranged by
the unit.

Water.: The main water requirement for the unit is for drinking and sanitation purpose of
workers. There is enough well water facility in the premises of the unit. Thus it can be
concluded that the location of the unit is blessed with all infrastructural facilities.
