MODULE 1

INTERNET

It is the biggest worldwide communication networks of computers. It has


millions of smaller domestic, academic, business &govt networks which together
carry different kinds of information.
The internet was developed in the US by the US department of defense advanced
research project agency. It was first connected in October 1969 and was called
advanced research project agency network (ARPANET)

WWW

The world wide web is an information space were documents and other web
resources are identified by URL (uniform Resource located) interlinked by
hypertext link and can be accessed via internet.

WEBPAGE

A web page (or webpage) is a hypertext document on the World Wide Web. Web
pages are delivered by a web server to the user and displayed in a web browser. A
website consists of many web pages linked together under a common domain name.

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language)

HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language.HTML is the standard markup
language for creating Web pages.HTML describes the structure of a Web page. It
consists of a series of elements. Its elements tell the browser how to display the
content.HTML elements label pieces of content such as "this is a heading", "this is a
paragraph", "this is a link", etc.

WEB BROWSER

A web browser is an application for accessing websites. When a user requests a web
page from a particular website, the browser retrieves its files from a web server and
then displays the page on the user's screen. Browsers are used on a range of devices,
including desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones
SEARCH ENGINE

A search engine is a platform on which a user can search the internet content.
Google, Yahoo, Bing, Baidu, and DuckDuckGo are popular search engines. Google
is one of the most used search engines worldwide that is used with the Chrome
browser.
ELECTRONIC MAIL (e-mail)

E-mail is a short for electronic mail, create text and send them over a network of
computers. The first e-mail goes back to the 1960s. The invention has influenced
over lives and e-mail have become a popular means of communication. Electronic
mail (email or e-mail) is a method of transmitting and receiving messages
using electronic devices.

ADVANTAGES

1. You can organize daily correspondence send and receive e-messages


and save them on computers.
2. No other form of written communication is as fast are e-mail.
3. It is possible to send automated e-mail with a certain text.
4. Products can be advertised with e-mail. Companies can reach a lot of
people and inform them in a short period.

DISADVANTAGES

1. Many people send unwanted e-mail to others, there are called as spam e-
mail
2. e-mail may be carrying virus, these are small programs that harm your
computer system

DISADVANTAGES OF INTERNET
1.Addiction
Internet has an addictive impact. Many people become addicted to internet and spend
hours for internet surging

2.Spam
It refers to sending unsolicited emails and unwanted advertisements in bulk, which
unnecessarily blocks the entire system
3. Virus
An important problem associates with internet is the spreading of computer
virus which corrupts files and programs. Internet is the most popular source of
spreading virus.
4.Accuracy of Information
A lot of information about a particular topic is stored on the websites Some of such
information may be wrong information.
5. Personal Information
If you use internet, your personal information such as your name, address etc. can be
assessed by other people.
6 Pornography
This is a serious issue concerning the internet, especially when it comes to
our children. There are thousands of pornographic sites on the internet that can be
easily found and accessed by children
