1. Purpose

To mediate the amendments of CAPS Section 4:


Tourism, Grades 10 and 11 for implementation in
2020 as published in Government Gazette no: 42829

Purpose continued
• To strengthen and improve the quality and effectiveness of
assessment as stipulated in CAPS Section 4 for Grades 10 & 11
from January 2020.
• To reduce curriculum overload.
• To strengthen curriculum coverage.
• To address assessment overload.
• To improve the weighting of marks per topic versus the
teaching time spent per topic to determine the marks allocated
per topic.
• Revise and improve the forms of assessment.
• To apply familiar concepts and skills to real-life scenarios to
solve problems and recommend appropriate solutions.

2. Background

Assessment overload: SBA : 6+1 Tasks
7+2 Tasks Number of tasks reduced (1x task removed)
(9 SBA Tasks + PAT
1 PAT = 2 Practical Exams) Reduced to ONE Practical Examination task

Weighting of content A framework has been developed to weight the


topics for the June topics according to teaching time spent per topic.
Examination

Guidelines for setting a Guidelines have been developed for the setting
test and marking of test based tasks plus criteria for the
guideline development of the marking guideline.
