Question: How do you maintain a learning environment that is responsive to your community’s context?
Describe the context in your area and share teacher practices that contribute to further improvement of
your community.
In order to have a learning environment that is responsive to the community’s context, we need to have
an open, sincere and respectful communication with the parents or guardians, our co-teachers, school
heads, and our community leaders.
As an Administrative Officer II at De Guzman Integrated School and as a part-time MTAP lecturer at Mabini
District. I've been able to learn and understand their problems through consistent communication and
empathy, especially about financial limitations that restricts their access to secondary education. Because
Secondary Schools are so far away, that students especially those coming from poor families opt to
discontinue their studies. When our School Head initiated the conversion of De Guzman Elementary
School to De Guzman Integrated School to address these issues, I fully supported the initiative, helping in
any way that I can to make it possible. With the support of the teachers, parents, barangay officials, and
the local government, we successfully implemented Grade 7 offerings for the current school year and are
preparing for Grade 8 next school year. This transformation aims to provide a more comprehensive and
accessible education for our community.
Our lines of communication and partnership with stakeholders have created a caring and
inclusive, and encouraging learning environment for the students. This setting makes the
students closer to reaching their aspirations, which eventually promotes personal development
and raises the standard of living in our community.
