spirit and liked to find things out on her own.

c. Nira was impatiently trying to spot their houseboat. When Mother said
that their houseboat was named ‘The Star of Kashmir’, she excitedly
pointed at a large houseboat in front of them. It had flowerpots and pink
curtains. Meanwhile, Niren was admiring the sight of enormous water

As soon as the lid of the basket was opened, Papaya sprang out with an
angry miaow. That is how mother knew that Papaya was tired of being shut
in the basket and wanted to find out where they were.
c) Mother was very observant as she knew what Papaya wanted. She was also
very caring and considerate. So, she told Nira to let Papaya look around
instead of cuddling her.

Q. 1 Why do you think Papaya felt that she had been tricked?

ANS : Papaya was carried inside a big, closely – woven basket. She curled
herself up at the bottom of the basket, sighed deeply and fell asleep. She
did not know where she was being taken to . When she was let out, she
hopped upon the windowsill because she thought she was inside a normal
house, but when she looked out of the window, all she could see around
the house was water. She had mistaken the houseboat for a real house.
That is when she realized that she had been tricked.
