Q1: How many solutions does the pair of equations y = 0 and y = -5 have?
Q2: For what value of k, the pair of equations 4x – 3y = 9, 2x + ky = 11 has no
solution?
Q3: Find whether the following pair of linear equations is consistent or
inconsistent: 3x + 2y = 8 and 6x – 4y = 9
Q4: Solve by elimination: 3x = y + 5
5x – y = 11
𝑥 𝑦
Q5: Solve for x and y: = ;
𝑎 𝑏

ax + by = a2+ b2
Q6: Find the value of α and β for which the following pair of linear equations
has infinite number of solutions: 2x + 3y = 7;
αx + (α + β)y = 28
Q7: Do the following pair of linear equations have no solution? Justify your
answer.
(i) 2x + 4y = 3; 12y + 6x = 6
(ii) x = 2y; y = 2x
Q8: Do the following equations represent a pair of coincident lines? Justify your
answer.
(i) 3x + 17 y = 3; 7x + 3y = 7
(ii) -2x – 3y = 1; 6y + 4x = -2
Q9: Are the following pair of linear equations consistent? Justify your answer.
(i) -3x – 4y = 12; 4y + 3x = 12
(ii) 35x – y = 12, 15x – 3y = 16
Q10: A two digit number is seven times the sum of its digits. The number
formed by reversing the digits is 18 less than the given number. Find the given
number.
Q11: The sum of the digits of a two digit number is 8 and the difference
between the number and that formed by reversing the digits is 18. Find the
number.
Q12The line represented by x = 7 is parallel to the x-axis. Justify whether the
statement is true or not.
Q13: Solve for x and y:
10 2 15 5
+ = 4; − = −2, where x + y ≠ 0 and x – y ≠ 0.
𝑥+𝑦 𝑥−𝑦 𝑥+𝑦 𝑥−𝑦
Q14: Represent the following pair of equations graphically and write the
coordinates of points where the lines intersect y-axis.
x + 3y = 6 and 2x – 3y = 12
Q15: Draw the graph of 2y = 4x – 6; 2x = y + 3 and determine whether this
system of linear equations has a unique solution or not.
Q16: Calculate the area bounded by the line x + y = 10 and both the co-ordinate
axes.
Q17: A 2 digit number is such that the product of digits is 14. When 45 is added
to the number, digits reversed. Find the number.
Q18: There are some students in the two examination halls A and B. To make
the number of students equal in each hall, 10 students are sent from A to 8. But
if 20 students are sent from B to A, the number of students in A becomes double
the number of students in B. Find the number of students in the two halls.
Q19: The owner of a taxi company decides to run all the taxis on CNG fuel
instead of petrol/diesel. The taxi charges in city comprises of fixed charges
together with the charge for the distance covered. For a journey of 13 km, the
charge paid is ₹129 and for a journey of 22 km, the charge paid is ₹210.
What will a person have to pay for travelling a distance of 32 km?
Q20: Draw the graphs of following equations:
2x – y = 1; x + 2y = 13
Find the solution of the equations from the graph and shade the triangular
region formed by the lines and the y-axis.
Q21: The angles of a cyclic quadrilateral ABCD are ∠A = (6x + 10)°, ∠B =
(5x)°, ∠C = (x + y)° and ∠D = (3y – 10)°.
